Any GM here is going to have the same problem. Between the small market and the weather, Free agents don't come here very often. Even if we have the best fans...and forum.
Why? I think it shows NO that Paul values him. Now if NO is hellbent on getting on out of Portland then yeah it'd look bad.
As an owner, I would never deny permission. Like Olshey hinself says. We want guys who want to be here.
Giving permission gives everyone a sense he wants out. If he wants out, I would think PA would let him go.
I don't think he wants permission, that's my point. If he did, PA would have given it. This way sends a strong message he's here, period.
It's standard operating procedure to deny permission to other teams to talk to your executives/coaches, unless it's for a higher position. Assuming you want to keep them, that is. Whether or not Olshey wanted to leave, denying permission is in no way unusual or disrespectful.
Neil easily could have asked Allen to deny permission because he didn't want to interview. That way he doesn't piss off Atlanta or have any hurt feelings. And that makes a lot of sense knowing how Olshey is about league protocol.
Olshey trades himself to Atlanta for Milsap. Then he trades himself back to Portland for Meyers Leonard. Thug life.
Being that big FA aren't looking at Portland I say we need a Legend at GM who has impact on players. I think Magic was a great move Lakers made.
Prior to CJ and Nurk with draft options, Neil was in disfavor around here. I still did not like the Turner signing.
It was an overpay most definitely. I'm still not sure if he will work out here or not but I always thought he was brought in so CJ/Dame could rest more and be more ready for big games/the palyoffs.
