Florida State beats Florida for third straight win in Swamp

Florida Field was nearly empty and Florida State was still celebrating.

The Seminoles danced on the sideline. Their fans lingered in the stands. And the band drowned out the stadium's sound system.

It's a scene that's become fairly common in this series.

Dalvin Cook ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns, Roberto Aguayokicked two long field goals and the No. 13 Seminoles upended 12th-ranked Florida 27-2 on Saturday night.

NCAA denies Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt's appeal for sixth season

The NCAA has denied Syracuse's appeal in an effort to get Orange quarterback Terrel Hunt a sixth season of eligibility, The Daily Orange reported Monday.

Hunt, who threw for 1,638 yards and 10 touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore in 2013, missed all but five games of his junior season because of a broken leg and then sustained a season-ending torn Achilles tendon in Syracuse's opener in 2015.

Duke dual-threat QB Thomas Sirk suffers ruptured Achilles tendon

Duke quarterback Thomas Sirk will be out of offseason workouts indefinitely after suffering a ruptured left Achilles tendon this morning. The school announced via Twitter he is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday.

Sirk led the Blue Devils in passing in 2015 with 2,625 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 58.8 percent of his pass attempts. Sirk was also intercepted eight times and was a bit of a mobile threat for Duke. Sirk rushed for 803 yards and eight touchdowns, both good for leading Duke’s rushing attack last season.

UM running back Trayone Gray to miss season with torn ACL

For the second time in as many months, the Hurricanes have lost a player to a serious knee injury. This time, it's running back Trayone Gray, who tore his ACL and will miss the season, a source confirmed to the Sun Sentinel late Tuesday.

Gray, a junior out of Carol City High School, was projected to be behind backs Mark Walton, Joe Yearby and Gus Edwards on the Hurricanes depth chart. He appeared in three games last season and was Miami's third-leading rusher with 145 yards on 23 carries.

Gray, for his part, took to Twitter on Tuesday night writing, "I'll [be] good My boys gone handle up just chill," along with "Thanks for all the prayers I appreciate it everyone God bless."

Duke suspends DT Brandon Boyce and S Phillip Carter for first 3 games

Duke will head into the 2016 season minus two of its defensive players for the first three games, as defensive tackle Brandon Boyce and safety Phillip Carter have been suspended by head coach David Cutcliffe. This according to multiple reports.

No reason was given for the suspension. However, via Duke’s Sports Information department, the reasoning for the suspension was “an internal matter (no police involvement). “

Both players will still be allowed to practice with the team.

Boyce, a 6’1”, 255-pound sophomore defensive tackle from Fort Lauderdale, Florida is coming off a freshman campaign in which he recorded 23 tackles and one sack in 13 games played.

The Ole Miss Rebels now know which Florida State quarterback they will face on Sept. 5.

Lamar Jackson accounts for 8 TDs as Louisville routs Charlotte

Lamar Jackson not only hit 16 Louisville receivers with passes -- six for touchdowns -- he weaved his way through Charlotte's beleaguered defense for a couple of hard-earned scores himself.

Jackson accounted for a school-record eight touchdowns and 405 offensive yards by halftime to help No. 19 Louisville dismantle Charlotte 70-14 on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams.

No. 2 Clemson, Watson survive 19-13 scare against Auburn

Clemson's Dabo Swinney kept his kicker on the sideline and put the game in star quarterback Deshaun Watson's hands.

The decision worked in the second-ranked Tigers' 19-13 win over Auburn on Saturday night, but not without a few more anxious moments in an opener filled with them.

Lamar Jackson stays hot with 5 total TDs, 610 yards in Louisville rout

After falling behind early, Syracuse was trying to rally in the third quarter against No. 13 Louisville, and the Carrier Dome crowd was alive as the Cardinals faced a third-and-18.

Lamar Jackson then did what he does best.

The Cardinals' elusive sophomore quarterback ripped off a 33-yard run to again stun the Orange on a night of big plays. Louisville didn't extend its lead, but in the end it didn't matter.

Jackson ran for four touchdowns and threw for another, and the Cardinals routed Syracuse 62-28 on Friday night in the ACC opener for both teams. Jackson tallied 610 total yards, the most by a player in a game in ACC history.

No. 3 Florida St. routs depleted Charleston Southern, 52-8

Florida State's Deondre Francois has mostly silenced concerns for those who thought he might struggle in his first two starts.

The redshirt freshman followed up Monday night's record-setting debut against then-No. 11 Mississippi with a solid outing against Charleston Southern. Francois threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns as the third-ranked Seminoles cruised to a 52-8 victory against the depleted Buccaneers on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Clemson overcomes McCloud's ball flip to hold off Troy 30-24

With all the problems, mistakes and numerous errors it's hard to take a lot of positives from Clemson's 2-0 start.

Deshaun Watson threw three touchdowns as the second-ranked Tigers held off Troy 30-24 on Saturday in a game that will mostly be remembered for bad decision making by the defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions.

Front and center is Ray-Ray McCloud's embarrassing mental gaffe when he flipped the ball on the 1-yard line as he was cruising into the end zone to celebrate a 75-yard punt return TD. McCloud went through with the flash, posing for the fans, and rolling around with teammates after Clemson's first punt return touchdown in three years. Moments later, replays showed McCloud never brought the ball across the goal line.

Walton runs for 4 TDs, No. 25 Miami tops FAU 38-10

Mark Walton saved Miami against Florida Atlantic last year.

He was even better in the rematch.

Walton rushed for career highs of 155 yards and four touchdowns, and No. 25 Miami shook off a slow start to beat Florida Atlantic 38-10 on Saturday night.

FSU's Derwin James to miss 5-7 weeks after meniscus surgery

Florida State safety Derwin James had successful surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, Jimbo Fisher said after Tuesday’s practice.

James is expected to miss anywhere from 5-7 weeks, Fisher estimated.

“They sowed it, which is really good for him because they saved every inch of the cartilage,” Fisher said.

Florida State's highly anticipated matchup at home against Clemson on Oct. 29 is seven weeks based on James' timeframe.

North Carolina's Allen Artis, accused of sexual assault, turns himself in

University of North Carolina football player Allen Artis entered court Wednesday to face the misdemeanor arrest warrant issued over sexual assault allegations.

His first court appearance is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday.

UNC sophomore Delaney Robinson accused Artis, 21, of sexually assaulting her on Feb. 14 and she said inaction by police, prosecutors and the university led to her seeking charges as an individual. .

"Delaney Robinson had the courage to report she had been raped," Denise Branch, Robinson's attorney, said in an email to USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday. "In response, she has been treated with indifference, disrespect and inordinate delay. Delaney has been resolute since her attack on Valentine’s Day. Everyone should be accountable for their actions and we are pleased the process is finally moving forward."

USA TODAY Sports does not usually name alleged victims of sexual violence, but Robinson has made the allegations public.

Jackson, No. 10 Louisville run over No. 2 Florida St 63-20

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson shrugged off chants of "Heisman! Heisman!" from Cardinals' fans and seemed satisfied knowing he had played a role in one of the program's biggest wins.

A very big role worthy of all the adulation.

Jackson ran for four touchdowns and threw for another as No. 10 Louisville poured it on for a 63-20 victory on Saturday, the most points ever allowed by Florida State.
