No. 5 Clemson routs SC State 59-0 in shortened game

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney hoped his team would end an early season funk with a big game and some big plays against South Carolina State. Chances came early and often in a 59-0 rout on Saturday.

Kaaya leads No. 25 Miami over Appalachian State 45-10

When Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya threw an interception on a goal line that gave briefly gave Appalachian State some life in the third quarter, he didn't panic -- nor did his teammates.

"In years past we would close in and fold a little bit and maybe guys would point fingers and go back and forth," Kaaya said.

Instead, Kaaya led the 25th-ranked Hurricanes on back-to-back touchdown drives as Miami soundly defeated Appalachian State 45-10 in front of a record crowd of 34,658 at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Kaaya threw for 368 yards and three scores, Mark Walton ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns as Miami improved to 3-0.

Deshaun Watson, Clemson roll past Georgia Tech as Louisville looms

The halftime stats were almost comical. Clemson looked as though it was going against the scout team, not a fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school.

Finally, the sort of performance everyone has been expecting from the No. 5 Tigers.

Deshaun Watson threw for 304 yards, including a pair of touchdowns during a dominant first half that carried Clemson to a 26-7 victory over Georgia Tech on Thursday night.

Jackson shines again, No. 3 Louisville beats Marshall 59-28

Lamar Jackson's latest fantastic performance didn't live up to his own lofty standards.

Jackson capped off a September to remember with another solid effort against an overmatched opponent, throwing for a career-high 417 yards and accounting for seven touchdowns in No. 3 Louisville's 59-28 win over Marshall on Saturday night.

No. 13 Florida State rebounds and routs South Florida 55-35

Those questions about whether Dalvin Cook can recover from a slow start? He just answered them.

The shifty Florida State running back rushed for a career-high 267 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, helping the 13th-ranked Seminoles rebound from the most lopsided loss in school history with a 55-35 rout of previously unbeaten USF.

Watson TDs lift No. 5 Clemson to 42-36 win over Louisville

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney had a simple message for his defense in facing Louisville star Lamar Jackson.

"If he's Superman," Swinney told them, "we're going to be the Kryptonite."

No. 5 Clemson did just enough, rallying for two fourth-quarter touchdowns and stopping Jackson and No. 3 Louisville a yard short on fourth down with 33 seconds left to hold on for a 42-36 victory Saturday night.

UNC snaps No. 12 Florida State's 22-game home win streak

Nick Weiler ended up going from goat to hero in the span of 23 seconds.

North Carolina's senior kicker saw No. 12 Florida State take a late one-point lead with the difference being a blocked extra point. But the Tar Heels were able to drive 38 yards in three plays, helped by extra yardage due to a pass interference call, to set the stage for Weiler to atone for his earlier mistake.

He nailed a career-best, 54-yard field goal as time to expired to give North Carolina a 37-35 win and snap the Seminoles' 22-game home winning streak. It was the second straight week that the Tar Heels (4-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) won in the final seconds. Last Saturday, they defeated Pittsburgh by one point on a touchdown pass from Mitch Trubisky with two seconds remaining.

2 TDs by defense help No. 14 Miami beat Georgia Tech 35-21

For all the questions about his history at Georgia and his long record of success as a visiting coach at Georgia Tech, Mark Richt was only thinking about his ACC debut.

Shaquille Quarterman and Joe Jackson each returned fumbles by Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas for touchdowns in a span of less than a minute in the second quarter and No. 14 Miami beat the Yellow Jackets 35-21 on Saturday.

Watson and No. 3 Clemson take of care business at BC, 56-10

By Tuesday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney could tell his team needed a break. That victory against Louisville was dramatic and draining, and a long trip on short rest was looming.

Swinney eased up a bit on the third-ranked Tigers and they responded with a sharp performance when they easily could have come out flat, beating Boston College 56-10 on Friday night.

On a blocked PAT, No. 23 FSU beats No. 10 Miami 20-19

An unlikely kick a week ago doomed Florida State.

An unlikely blocked kick now might have saved the Seminoles' season.

DeMarcus Walker pushed through the line and blocked Miami kickerMichael Badgley's point-after attempt with 1:38 remaining, and that was the difference as No. 23 Florida State escaped with a 20-19 victory over the 10th-ranked Hurricanes on Saturday night -- the Seminoles' seventh straight win over their archrival.

No. 25 Virginia Tech beats No. 17 North Carolina 34-3

The rain from Hurricane Matthew kept coming. So too did Virginia Tech's aggressive defense, along with an offense that kept chipping away through its own mistakes.

Consider it proof that the No. 25 Hokies are catching on to what their new coach is preaching.

Jerod Evans accounted for three touchdowns while the defense shut down No. 17 North Carolina in a 34-3 road win Saturday played in heavy rain the hurricane brought as it made its trek north.

No. 3 Clemson survives NC State, 24-17

Dabo Swinney rolled forward out of his crouch, exhaled deeply and slapped the ground. The Clemson coach knew how fortunate the third-ranked Tigers were to escape with their latest victory.

"There's something to be said for finding a way to win," Swinney said. "And there's something to be said for knowing how to win."

A little luck doesn't hurt either.

The Tigers (7-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) needed all of it to squeak past North Carolina State 24-17 in overtime Saturday.

No. 7 Louisville outlasts Duke, 24-14

Louisville's lopsided victories had raised expectations so high for the No. 7 Cardinals that a close victory seemed unlikely against an outmatched opponent.

But a second straight defeat looked possible against Duke on Friday night until a late penalty by the Blue Devils allowed quarterback Lamar Jackson to seal a shaky win for the Cardinals.

Jackson provided a cushion with a 2-yard touchdown run with 1:32 remaining and Louisville held off Duke 24-14, and the outcome was all that mattered to the Cardinals.

Rudolph has 238 yards as No. 14 Seminoles beat Wake Forest

Travis Rudolph and the Florida State defense got some much-needed confidence on Saturday.

Rudolph had a career-high 13 receptions for 238 yards while the defense held Wake Forest without a touchdown as the 14th-ranked Seminoles posted a 17-6 victory.

Eric Dungey leads Syracuse past No. 17 Virginia Tech, 31-17

First-year Syracuse coach Dino Babers got the signature win he was looking for.

"The biggest thing about this win is that any time you take over a program you trying to get everybody to buy in, you're trying to get everybody to work as one," Babers said after the Orange beat No. 17 Virginia Tech 31-17 on Saturday for their first victory over a ranked opponent since 2012.

North Carolina knocks off No. 16 Miami, 20-13

Malik Carney hopped up and down in the middle of the North Carolina locker room, joyous teammates bouncing off him in the postgame celebration .

With good reason -- since he thwarted any hope Miami had at a comeback.

Carney knocked the ball out of quarterback Brad Kaaya's hand to snuff out the final Miami possession, and North Carolina ran out the clock to beat the 16th-ranked Hurricanes 20-13 on Saturday and move into first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division.

Jackson has 4 TDs, No. 7 Louisville routs NC State 54-13

Lamar Jackson and Louisville needed less than two minutes Saturday to get rid of a whole week's worth of bad feelings from a lackluster effort against Duke.

Jackson broke a school single-season record with four first-half touchdowns, Louisville had three interceptions leading to 17 points and the seventh-ranked Cardinals burst past North Carolina State 54-13 on Saturday.

Trubisky leads No. 22 North Carolina past Virginia 35-14

The last time Mitch Trubisky threw a pass in Virginia's Scott Stadium, two years ago, it was his only play of the game and he hit T.J. Thorpe with less than a minute to play to give North Carolina a victory.

He needed no such dramatics Saturday, throwing three touchdown passes as the No. 22 Tar Heels rode his accurate arm and a strong performance by their defense to a 35-14 victory, their seventh in a row in the series and ninth consecutive in true road games.

Jackson rescues No. 5 Louisville at Virginia, 32-25

When he trotted back onto the field with just over 2 minutes to play and No, 5 Louisville suddenly trailing Virginia 25-24 on Saturday, Lamar Jackson was well aware of what was at stake.

"Everything," he said. "Our whole season. We just knew what we had to do."

Jackson, as has been the case all season, did the most, engineering a 75-yard drive and capping it by floating a perfectly placed 29-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Smith with 13 seconds remaining as the Cardinals survived, 32-25.

Watson leads No. 2 Clemson to blowout before injury

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was ready to see his second-ranked Tigers build momentum for the final regular-season push. He couldn't be happier with their performance against Syracuse.

The Tigers (6-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) improved to 9-0 for a second straight season, rolling over the Orange for a 54-0 shutout Saturday. Not even seeing Heisman Trophy contending quarterback Deshaun Watson leave the game with an injury in the first half could spoil Swinney's satisfaction over this one.
