Lawrence leads No. 1 Clemson past Syracuse 41-6

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was forced to be a spectator a year ago when a hard hit to the helmet knocked him out in the second quarter of his first college start. This time he left in the fourth quarter with the game well in hand.

Lawrence threw for a career-high 395 yards and three touchdowns, ran for another, and top-ranked Clemson smothered nemesis Syracuse 41-6 on Saturday night.

    'Pitt Special' ends UCF's 27-game reg.-season run

Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Mark Whipple installed the play he dubbed "Pitt Special" during the second week of training camp.

Whipple had his first-stringers run it once against the starting defense and it worked. So he made sure the Panthers practiced it during Thursday walk-throughs and tucked it into his back pocket just in case.

Just in case arrived late Saturday afternoon with Pitt trailing 15th-ranked UCF by six and a minute to go. Facing fourth-and-2 at the UCF 3, an official came over and told Whipple the Panthers could still get a first down if they got to the 1.

"Nah, we're going to score," Whipple said.

Running back A.J. Davis took a direct snap from center, ran to his left and flipped the ball to Aaron Mathews, who was heading right. Mathews, a former high school quarterback, thought he might have to make a run at the pylon. When two Knights defenders closed in, Mathews pulled up and found quarterback Kenny Pickett in the end zone, giving the Panthers a euphoric 35-34 victory.

No. 21 Virginia rallies past Old Dominion to stay undefeated

Bronco Mendenhall isn't big on fiery halftime speeches. So, with his team trailing visiting Old Dominion by 10 points at halftime, the Virginia coach's message to his players was simple.

"All I said was, `Now that that's over, we'll start playing," Mendenhall said.

    His defense certainly did.

Linebacker Zane Zandier returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown, part of a dominant defensive second half, as the 21st-ranked Cavaliers rallied past the Monarchs 28-17 on Saturday night to remain undefeated.

No. 1 Clemson blasts Charlotte 52-10 for 19th straight win

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was happy with the final score. He was even more pleased with how many of his players contributed to the top-ranked Tigers 19th straight victory.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw touchdown passes in little over a quarter while reigning Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year Travis Etienne had his first scoring run of the season Clemson's 52-10 win over Charlotte on Saturday night.

Harris, Duke put a hurting on Virginia Tech, 45-10

A first-quarter defensive battle left Duke and Virginia Tech looking for something to kick-start their offense.

The Blue Devils got the break they needed early in the second quarter, while the struggling Hokies never did.

Quentin Harris threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and Duke beat Virginia Tech 45-10 on Friday night.

Miami, new starting QB Perry hold off No. 20 UVa

Miami used its backup quarterback and a kicker whose name was a mystery to some of his own teammates.

And the Hurricanes might have saved their season.

N'Kosi Perry threw for a touchdown on the opening drive and ran for another with 2:31 remaining, Turner Davidson was 3 for 3 on kicks to at least temporarily solve a Miami problem at that position, and the Hurricanes knocked off No. 20 Virginia 17-9 on Friday night.

No. 2 Clemson pounds Florida St 45-14 for 21st straight win

No. 2 Clemson had a dominant answer for those doubting whether the defending national champions could live up to the hype.

Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, two to Justyn Ross, as Clemson pounded Florida State 45-14 on Saturday to extend its program record with its 21st straight victory.

No. 25 Cincinnati holds off Houston late to win 38-23

Luke Fickell described No. 25 Cincinnati's fourth-straight victory as "not the prettiest thing in the world."

The Bearcats (5-1, 2-0 American Athletic Conference) used a 21-point first half to pull away early and Perry Young's late 2-yard interception return for a touchdown sealed a 38-23 road victory over Houston on Saturday.

Louisville earns wild 62-59 win over No. 19 Wake Forest

Louisville started piling up points early behind its quick-strike special teams and big-play receivers. Wake Forest's league-best offense joined in with a late flurry.

It added up to one of the highest-scoring games in Atlantic Coast Conference history -- and a signature victory for the Cardinals' new coach.

Louisville held off No. 19 Wake Forest's late rally to upset the Demon Deacons 62-59 on Saturday night in the second-highest-scoring game in ACC history.

Lawrence leads No. 3 Clemson to 45-10 rout of Louisville

Because Clemson's Trevor Lawrence isn't prone to mistakes, the two early interceptions he threw against Louisville were a bit puzzling.

He put both miscues behind him to guide the Tigers to another rout.

Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, Travis Etienne rushed for 192 yards and a score and No. 3 Clemson beat Louisville 45-10 on Saturday for its 22nd consecutive victory.

Etienne's 3 TDs lead No. 4 Clemson past Boston College 59-7

Diondre Overton finally got his moment. It came in Clemson's best offensive showing of the season.

The reserve receiver, who had only four touchdowns in his previous three seasons, caught three scoring passes to help the fourth-ranked Tigers win their 23rd straight game, 59-7 over Boston College on Saturday night.

No. 4 Clemson tops NC State 55-10, wins ACC division title

Trevor Lawrence said he and his Clemson teammates aren't focused on trying to make a point about their outside-looking-in position in the first College Football Playoff rankings.

Maybe not, but the reigning national champion Tigers sure are playing with an overwhelming edge all the same -- and that has for now at least secured their ticket to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game.

Lawrence threw for two scores and ran for another in a dominating first quarter, helping No. 4 Clemson beat North Carolina State 55-10 on Saturday night to clinch the league's Atlantic Division title.

Hendon Hooker, Hokies beat No. 22 Wake Forest 22-17

Bud Foster has been an assistant coach at Virginia Tech for 33 seasons, and before the Hokies' game against No. 22 Wake Forest, the athletic department honored the retiring defensive coordinator for his accomplishments and years of service.

During the game, he showed why he deserved being honored.

Foster's defense throttled Wake Forest's high-scoring attack, and Hendon Hooker led an offense that got into the act, too, to help the Hokies beat the Demon Deacons 36-17 on Saturday.

Pickett accounts for 3 TDs, Pitt edges UNC 34-27 in OT

The play gave Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett the option of keeping it or handing it off to running back Vincent Davis.

Only it really wasn't an option at all. Pickett knew he was going to keep the ball before he even took the snap on first-and-goal at the North Carolina 3 in overtime on Thursday night.

"Judging by the way they were playing, I (felt) like it's going to be one-on-one and (I'd) make a guy miss and score," Pickett said.

    Done and done.

Pickett's 3-yard sprint over left tackle gave the Panthers the lead in the extra period and Pitt's defense made it stand up, giving the Panthers a 34-27 victory over the Tar Heels that kept Pitt in the mix for a second straight Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division title.

Lawrence throws 4 TDs as No. 3 Clemson tops Deacons 52-3

Trevor Lawrence wasn’t going to slow down after clinching the ACC Atlantic a week earlier. No. 3 Clemson didn’t, either.

Lawrence tied his career high with four touchdowns, three to Tee Higgins, and No. 3 Clemson won its 26th straight game and completed a second straight perfect Atlantic Coast Conference regular season with a 52-3 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday.

Fields 4 TD passes, No. 2 Ohio State beats Rutgers 56-21

Fresh off another rout, Justin Fields and No. 2 Ohio State was looking ahead. Because chances are the next couple of games figure to be a bit tougher for the Buckeyes.

Fields threw for a career-high 305 yards and matched his best with four touchdown passes as Ohio State romped over Rutgers 56-21 on Saturday.

Georgia Tech stops NC State's late comeback for 28-26 win

Only five days after being removed from Georgia Tech's low point of the season, James Graham showed his dual-threat potential as the new leader of a revamped offense.

Graham threw three touchdown passes, including two to Ahmarean Brown, and Georgia Tech stopped a potential tying 2-point play with about five minutes remaining to beat North Carolina State 28-26 on Thursday night.
