No. 25 Pitt overcomes mistakes, slips by Syracuse 21-10

Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi watched the Panthers put together a nearly flawless practice last Tuesday, one so close to perfect that Narduzzi admitted he practically had to invent something to complain about.

That won't be an issue going forward.

While Narduzzi remains high on his team, No. 25 Pitt still has plenty to work on following a sloppy 21-10 win over Syracuse on Saturday.

    No. 21 Pitt's holds off No. 24 Louisville 23-20

Patrick Jones II wants No. 21 Pittsburgh's defense to be the best in the country. Not just in points allowed. Not just in yards allowed. Not just in sacks or turnovers. All of it.

"We want it all," the senior defensive end said.

The Panthers are certainly playing like it.

Jones collected three of Pitt's seven sacks, helping the Panthers beat No. 24 Louisville 23-20 on Saturday. The win pushed Pitt (3-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) to its best start since 2014 and adhered to a blueprint the Panthers believe can carry them to the conference title game in December: tough, physical defense and just enough offense to get by.

No. 12 North Carolina holds on to beat Boston College 26-22

North Carolina safety Trey Morrison stepped in front of the 2-point conversion attempt and saw a path to the other end zone, 99 yards away.

He went for it, and sealed a long-awaited victory for the 12th-ranked Tar Heels.

Morrison intercepted Phil Jurkovec's pass on the potential game-tying 2-point play and ran it back for a score with 45 seconds left Saturday to help North Carolina beat Boston College 26-22 for its pandemic-delayed second victory of the season.

Late TD pass lifts N.C. State past No. 24 Pitt 30-29

North Carolina State head coach Dave Doeren kept waiting for quarterback Devin Leary to take a firm grasp of the starting job. Doeren knew Leary had all the tools necessary to provide some stability at a position where there's been little of it recently for the Wolfpack.

At some point, Doeren figured it would all come together for the charismatic redshirt sophomore with the big arm.

That point arrived in the fourth quarter on Saturday at Heinz Field against No. 24 Pittsburgh. Twice the Wolfpack needed to go the length of the field to reclaim the lead. Twice they did it, the last time coming on a 13-yard strike from Leary to Emeka Emezie with 23 seconds to go to give N.C. State a stunning 30-29 victory over the previously unbeaten Panthers.

Lawrence's 3 TDs lead No. 1 Clemson to 41-23 win vs Virginia

Trevor Lawrence was happy with Clemson's win over Virginia. He was also glad the top-ranked Tigers were challenged a bit this early in the season.

Lawrence threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns as Clemson opened 3-0 for the sixth straight year with a 41-23 victory over the Cavaliers on Saturday night.

Sims powers Georgia Tech past fumble-prone Louisville, 46-27

Geoff Collins knew Georgia Tech's rainy day would come.

The coach had the Yellow Jackets prepared.

Jeff Sims threw a go-ahead 19-yard scoring pass to Jahmyr Gibbs midway through the fourth quarter and Georgia Tech rallied from a two-touchdown deficit to beat Louisville 46-27 on Friday night.

Book’s TD run helps No. 4 Irish avert upset bid by Cardinals

When it came time to deliver, Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book stopped beating himself up and kept the No. 4 Fighting Irish unbeaten.

“I’m definitely hard on myself, but my job at the end of the day is to get the ‘W’,” said Book, whose 13-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter together with Kyren Williams’ 127 rushing yards helped Notre Dame hold off the Cardinals 12-7 Saturday.
