    Antone Exum available for Hokies

Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum has been cleared to play after an eight-month rehab on his injured right knee.

Head athletic trainer Mike Goforth said in a statement Tuesday that Dr. James Andrews cleared Exum to return to practice without restrictions.

Exum, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during a pick-up basketball game in January, is expected to continue rehabilitation for the remainder of the season. He has been limited to non-contact drills the last few weeks.

Antone Exum to put off comeback

Virginia Tech cornerback Antone Exum has put his comeback attempt on hold.

Exum will not play Saturday against North Carolina despite being medically cleared to return to the field from a torn ACL, sustained in January during a pickup basketball game.

No. 3 Clemson cruises on road at Syracuse

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney seems to have it down pat: find a way to befuddle defenses and then let quarterback Tajh Boyd do the rest.

Coach and star player were on the same wavelength again on Saturday. With his talented receiving corps repeatedly running alone in space, Boyd threw for 455 yards and five touchdowns in three quarters of work as the third-ranked Tigers beat Syracuse 49-14 to spoil the Orange's Atlantic Coast Conference debut.

No. 8 Florida State demolishes No. 25 Maryland in shutout

Jameis Winston reaffirmed his Heisman Trophy candidacy with the best performance of his short career Saturday. The Florida State redshirt freshman put up career-highs with 393 yards passing and five touchdowns during a 63-0 victory over No. 25 Maryland.

Stephen Morris, No. 14 Miami pull away from Georgia Tech

Down by 10 points, the largest deficit faced by Miami in nearly a full year, there was no panic coming from anyone on the Hurricanes' sideline.

And once they erased that deficit, everything started going their way.

Stephen Morris threw three touchdown passes, Duke Johnson finished with 325 all-purpose yards and the 14th-ranked Hurricanes shook off a problematic opening quarter to beat Georgia Tech 45-30 on Saturday, extending their best start in nine years.

    Clemson suspends Germone Hopper

Clemson reserve receiver Germone Hopper has been suspended for the Boston College game, coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement Friday.

Reserve defensive back Ronald Geohaghan also was suspended. Swinney said both players will miss the game for a team rules violation and "poor behavior."

Tajh Boyd helps Clemson avoid BC scare ahead of FSU showdown

It's time for No. 3 Clemson's second showdown this season. And this one is even bigger than the first.

Six weeks after defeating then fifth-ranked Georgia to start the season, the Tigers and Tajh Boyd put together a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Boston College that kept them on course for next week's Atlantic Coast Conference contest with No. 6 Florida State.

"I'll definitely be watching," Boston College receiver Alex Amidon said.

    24-14

Logan Thomas leads No. 24 Virginia Tech to 6th straight win

Logan Thomas and No. 24 Virginia Tech are still searching for an offensive rhythm.

With the way the Hokies are playing defense, what little the offense has managed to muster has been plenty.

Thomas threw an early touchdown pass, Cody Journell kicked four field goals and Virginia Tech sacked Pittsburgh's Tom Savage eight times in a 19-9 victory on Saturday, sending the Hokies into their off week on a six-game winning streak.

'12 defeat sticks with Clemson Tigers

Coaches from Clemson and Florida State may be treating this just like any other game, but don't tell that to the players heading into Saturday's matchup between the No. 3 Tigers and No. 5 Seminoles.

"It may be the biggest game in ACC history. We don't know," Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley said. "But our goal is to win a national championship."

It's the league's first matchup of top-five teams since No. 5 Miami defeated No. 3 Virginia Tech 27-7 in 2005. And Saturday night's winner in Death Valley will have another impressive line on its resume in the hunt for the national title.

No. 10 Miami escapes UNC on late Dallas Crawford TD run

Dallas Crawford knew Miami needed a big game from him after its top rusher went down to an early injury. He delivered with a performance that kept the 10th-ranked Hurricanes unbeaten -- barely.

The redshirt sophomore ran for a career-high 137 yards, including the go-ahead 3-yard touchdown with 16 seconds left that gave Miami a 27-23 victory over North Carolina on Thursday night.

    WR Phillip Dorsett injures MCL

A day after pulling out a last-second win to remain unbeaten, No. 10 Miami got more good news, this time on the injury fronts.

Wide receiver Phillip Dorsett may be able to return this season after doctors determined he only partially tore a ligament in his left knee against North Carolina on Thursday night, and starting running back Duke Johnson was showing no ill effects after a shot to the head forced him out of the game with the Tar Heels in the early going.

Dorsett has a tear in his medial collateral ligament -- a problem that may keep him out for six weeks but isn't as devastating as Miami originally feared.

No. 5 Florida State has little trouble crushing No. 3 Clemson

Jameis Winston and Florida State didn't take long to hush Death Valley, making a statement that that could be heard from Alabama to Oregon.

The Seminoles' remarkable redshirt freshman threw for 444 yards and three touchdowns and No. 5 Florida State crushed No. 3 Clemson 51-14 Saturday night. When the first BCS standings of the season come out Sunday, Florida State should be right there with the top-ranked Crimson Tide and second-ranked Ducks, fighting for the top spots.

No bowl ban for Miami Hurricanes

Thanks to "unprecedented" self-imposed sanctions, the Miami Hurricanes escaped additional harsh penalties from the NCAA as the Nevin Shapiro scandal presumably drew to a close Tuesday.

Miami will not face any additional bowl bans, clearing the way for the No. 7 Hurricanes (6-0) to participate in the postseason this year. Miami will lose nine scholarships total over the next three years, and the entire athletic program has been placed on three years' probation.

    Jimbo Fisher: Pain is preparation

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher wants his team to remember the pain from its first loss last year, a setback that knocked the Seminoles out of national championship contention.

The Seminoles had risen to No. 3 after the first five weeks then promptly lost to NC State, 17-16, on a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 16 seconds remaining.

The third-ranked Seminoles (6-0, 4-0 ACC) are No. 2 in the BCS Standings as the Wolfpack visit Saturday, and Fisher hopes that memory will help his team's focus.

"Feel that pain," Fisher said. "Pain is preparation. You want that pain again? Don't prepare. You want to eliminate that pain? Prepare and take care of your business."
