Jameis Winston, No. 2 Florida State rout North Carolina State Famous Jameis did it again, putting on a show reminiscent of some of the Florida State greats who were on hand Saturday to honor Bobby Bowden. No. 7 Miami escapes Wake Forest with TD in final minute Miami put its last-minute comeback hopes into Duke Johnson's hands, and he delivered. Twice, actually. Johnson ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns, the second a 1-yard plunge with 53 seconds left, as No. 7 Miami beat Wake Forest 24-21 on Saturday to remain unbeaten and cap a wild week of emotions. The NCAA mess that overshadowed Miami for 2½ years finally ended on Tuesday, and four days later, Johnson made sure there was cause for a second celebration.
Tajh Boyd, Sammy Watkins pace No. 9 Clemson past Maryland The offense clicked on the ground and in the air, amassing 551 yards on 98 plays. Duke picks off Logan Thomas 4 times, upsets No. 14 Virginia Tech The numbers suggested it was the same old Duke: 0-for-11 on third-down conversions, a 387 to 198 deficit in total offense, and a whopping 39:27 to 20:33 disadvantage in time of possession. The difference was that these Blue Devils won, stunning No. 14 Virginia Tech 13-10 on Saturday, and all but clinching what will be the first consecutive bowl appearances in program history.
Jimbo Fisher: No emotion in ballot One day after Florida State dropped a spot to third in the latest BCS standings, head coach Jimbo Fisher said he believes his Seminoles are as good as any other team in the country -- but he didn't vote them No. 1, either. Fisher, who has a vote in the USA Today Coaches Poll, which makes up one-third of the BCS formula, didn't put FSU atop his ballot. Emotion, he said, shouldn't figure into the decision. "That's a job I have," Fisher said. "I don't look at it through our team. You can't let emotion get into it. You have to do what you think, from your study, evaluation, opinion and expertise, where you should fit in that poll." Florida State did not earn any first-place votes in the latest coaches' poll. While Fisher didn't reveal his full ballot, he strongly suggested Alabama took the top spot. "Alabama's been very consistent, playing great defense right now, they have playmakers that can run the football, they're very physical, and they've done it and earned it for two years," Fisher said. Miami, Florida State back in spotlight Jimbo Fisher and Al Golden have their programs back in a familiar place as unbeatens Florida State and Miami get ready for their showdown Saturday night in Tallahassee. "Shows college football is gettin' right again," Fisher said. Fisher has the No. 3 Seminoles (7-0, 5-0 ACC) rolling, looking every bit like a national championship contender. But the uphill climb since replacing Bobby Bowden has been filled with growing pains.
Ryan Norton suspended after arrest Syracuse will rely on both its punters to handle placekicking dutes against Wake Forest on Saturday after starter Ryan Norton was suspended. Tajh Boyd sets ACC touchdown record as Clemson rolls Tajh Boyd sent Sammy Watkins out wide to the right, and saw freshman Tim Harris sliding over in man-to-man coverage. Clemson faced a third-and-15 from its 4 yard-line, a situation that usually calls for a more conservative play call, but Boyd saw the home run potential of the matchup and went for it. Moments later, Watkins was easing into the end zone after a 96-yard touchdown catch that gave the eighth-ranked Tigers a 42-7 lead against Virginia, and Boyd and Watkins were done for the night in what became a 59-10 victory on Saturday.

Trey Edmunds, Virginia Tech cruise past No. 11 Miami A fumbled punt return. A fumbled kickoff return. A punting miscue. Trey Edmunds and Virginia Tech cashed in on each of those massive Miami blunders, and all of a sudden, the Hokies very much look like a team capable of winning yet another Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division title. Edmunds ran for four touchdowns, the first three of them set up by Miami mistakes, and Virginia Tech knocked off the No. 11 Hurricanes 42-24 on Saturday night, handing Miami its second straight loss.
James Conner, Pittsburgh rally to upset No. 23 Notre Dame Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly knew his team's margin for error remained thin even as the No. 23 Fighting Irish put together a four-game winning streak to build momentum for an outside shot at a Bowl Championship Series berth. Coker was injured in the second half of Florida State's 59-3 win over Wake Forest. It was a non-contact injury, Fisher said, and Coker is expected to have surgery Tuesday.
