Jameis Winston (4 total TDs) helps No. 1 FSU to 2nd straight ACC title

Two days after prosecutors decided not to press charges against him in a sexual assault case, the 19-year-old redshirt freshman threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score, and Florida State stormed into the title game with a 45-7 victory over No. 20 Duke on Saturday night in the ACC championship game.

    Chick-fil-A Bowl wanted Duke

Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan wants to set the record straight: His bowl always wanted No. 22 Duke.

Speaking Thursday during a news conference at the Blue Devils' team headquarters, Stokan shot down rumors that he would have preferred another ACC team in his bowl.

He says he "understands there's been some mention of politics" but adds that "there was no doubt in our minds" about Duke.

Jameis Winston: I did nothing wrong

Jameis Winston smiled and laughed Friday, posing for pictures with his fellow Heisman Trophy finalists and the big bronze statue he is expected to win Saturday night.

And when it came time to answer questions from the media, the Florida State quarterback did so confidently and without hesitation.

Winston and four of the other six Heisman finalists met with reporters at a Midtown Manhattan hotel for short interviews, and Florida State officials tried to limit questions that were even vaguely related to the rape accusation against Winston.

A state attorney in Tallahassee closed the investigation last week, saying there was not enough evidence to win a conviction.

The 19-year-old Winston, who hasn't spoken directly about the details of the investigation, seemed unfazed by the questions that did come his way. He said he was fine remaining silent about the case.

"I knew I did nothing wrong," he said. "I knew I could respect the process and I'd eventually be vindicated. It was more about me being silent for my family because I didn't want to put my family in those situations.

James Conner sets Pitt record as Panthers slip past Bowling Green

The way James Conner and Tyler Boyd played in their first postseason game, it's no wonder Pittsburgh coach Paul Chryst is excited about next season.

With a pair of freshmen leading the way -- and breaking some long-standing school records in the process -- the Panthers edged Bowling Green 30-27 on Thursday night in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. Conner rushed for 229 yards. Boyd caught eight passes for 173 yards and scored on a punt return.

Syracuse rallies late for win over Minnesota in Texas Bowl

Syracuse coach Scott Shafer wishes his team could have held its big lead over Minnesota and cruised to an easy win in the Texas Bowl on Friday night.

But he found it fitting that the Orange had to eke out the victory considering the number of close games they played this season.

Terrel Hunt scrambled 12 yards for a touchdown with 1:14 remaining to lift Syracuse to a 21-17 victory over the Golden Gophers.

Return touchdowns help UNC overwhelm Cincinnati

When North Carolina freshman Ryan Switzer reported to training camp in August he was a little miffed to learn he was third on the depth chart at punt returner.

"I kind of got mad because when I was getting recruited I was told I going to start at punt return," Switzer said.

Rather than pout, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Switzer went about working even harder to earn the starting job.

The 18-year-old not only did that, but capped a memorable season Saturday by returning a punt 86 yards for a touchdown to help North Carolina beat Cincinnati 39-17 for its first Belk Bowl title in four tries. It was Switzer's fifth punt return for a TD this season, tying an NCAA record.

    Jimbo Fisher signs new contract

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has officially signed a new five-year deal with the Seminoles through the 2018 season, the school announced Tuesday.

The deal, agreed to during the season, is worth $21 million. It also includes a buyout that is not expected to result in an increased payment if Fisher were to leave, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Tajh Boyd, Sammy Watkins connect as Clemson rallies past Ohio State

Clemson's players lobbed oranges at their delirious fans, while coach Dabo Swinney lobbed a not-so-subtle jab at the Tigers' in-state rival.

And in the middle of the celebration, Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins beamed after giving the Tigers a night to savor -- one 32 years in the making.

Boyd threw for 378 yards and five touchdowns, Watkins had a record-setting night with 16 catches for 227 yards on what likely was his collegiate finale and No. 12 Clemson rallied to beat No. 7 Ohio State 40-35 on Friday in the FedEx Orange Bowl, a game the Tigers lost by 37 points just two years ago.

Miami AD expects Al Golden to stay

Miami expects Al Golden to stay with the Hurricanes, athletic director Blake James said Saturday in response to speculation that the football coach may be poised to leave for Penn State.

James says he has been in regular communication with Golden in recent days and believes he will remain at Miami. Golden played for Joe Paterno at Penn State and has emerged as a top candidate to replace Bill O'Brien, who resigned to take over as coach of the NFL's Houston Texans.

Florida State wins national title with touchdown in final seconds

For all Jameis Winston had done as a redshirt freshman for Florida State, he never had to pull the Seminoles from the brink of defeat.

In the biggest game of the year, down by four with 79 seconds left, the Heisman Trophy winner put together the drive of his life, and the Seminoles proved they could take a punch to win a championship.

Winston threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin with 13 seconds left and No. 1 Florida State beat No. 2 Auburn 34-31 to win the BCS national title game on Monday night.

    Vic Beasley returning to Clemson

Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley will return for his senior season, the school announced Wednesday, the final day for underclassmen to declare for the NFL draft.

Beasley, projected to be a second-round pick by the draft's advisory board, was one of the last big names in the ACC to make his decision. He is rated No. 3 at his position and No. 36 overall by ESPN.com's Scouts Inc.

In his first season as a starter, Beasley led the ACC in sacks with 13 and finished second in tackles for loss with 23. His sacks per game was third best in the nation and his tackles for loss per game ranked second. He led the nation in tackles for loss per game against teams that finished the season with a winning record (19 in eight games). He was also 10th in the nation with four forced fumbles.

    Dabo Swinney gets 8-year deal

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney agreed Saturday to a new eight-year deal worth $27.15 million, keeping him with the Tigers through the 2021 season.

The Clemson University Board of Trustees Compensation Committee approved the terms Saturday morning. Swinney will make $3.15 million in 2014, up from the $2.2 million he earned this past season, will have more money available to pay his assistants and has a $5 million buyout if he decides to leave Clemson during the first three seasons of the deal.

Swinney has scheduled pay raises of $3.3 million in 2015 and $3.45 million starting in 2016. If Clemson wins the ACC championship in 2014, '15 or '16, his salary will jump to $3.5 million the following year. He has the opportunity to earn even more based on incentives, ranging from bowl appearances to a spot in the upcoming College Football Playoff.

    Duke Johnson rehabbing ankle

Miami running back Duke Johnson likely will miss spring practice as he continues to recover from a fractured ankle.

"I'm really excited in the progress I've made, and everyone else [at UM] is excited, too," Johnson told The Miami Herald on Sunday. "... I don't believe I will [practice this spring]. But if anything changes, you'll see. But I don't really think so."

Seth Littrell to be Tar Heels OC

Indiana offensive coordinator Seth Littrell is leaving to take the same post with North Carolina, IU announced Tuesday.

Littrell, who has spent the past two seasons at Indiana, will replace Blake Anderson, who left North Carolina in December to become head coach at Arkansas State. UNC has yet to make an official announcement.

Littrell also coached tight ends and fullbacks at Indiana, two groups he's expected to oversee with the Tar Heels. He served as Arizona's offensive coordinator in 2011.

    Florida State has third-ranked class

The most striking thing about Florida State's recruiting haul on national signing day, coach Jimbo Fisher said, was its size.

Fisher bragged Wednesday about the mammoth frames, long bodies and versatile athletes from a class that, according to Florida State's math, didn't include a single player under 6 feet tall. Of course, Fisher just as easily could have been talking about the sheer numbers that, in addition to ample quality, bring much-needed quantity to the defending national champs.

"It's one of the most complete classes we've been able to sign," Fisher said. "We hit needs all the way across the board and filled it with great players."

NC State QB Pete Thomas to transfer

NC State senior quarterback Pete Thomas, who started six games last year, has decided to transfer following his graduation in May, the school announced Friday.

NC State coach Dave Doeren had already said publicly that Florida transfer Jacoby Brissett would be the starter for the next two seasons, and the Wolfpack just signed Jalan McClendon, a four-star pocket passer ranked No. 20 in the country at his position.

Doeren told ESPN.com on Thursday that McClendon was recruited with the plan of being the program's next starter.
