Elevators and autonomous cars aren't remotely similar other than being machines that carry people. The elevator doesn't occupy the same space as people on old fashioned stairs. These cars are being put on public roads with millions of other cars. If every road was emptied of regular cars tomorrow and all the autonomous cars had transmitters broadcast their location we wouldn't even need traffic lights if we built pedestrian bridges everywhere. Now, an autonomous car driving in regular traffic can't think for itself to avoid a collision. I could drive on a sidewalk or into an empty lot to avoid hitting a kid that runs out in the road. What will your autonomous car do in that situation?
So you're saying that even with the simplest of autonomous safety features we aren't able to avoid collisions?
Once again, not even remotely similar. Not even related to this thread. I just drove a Honda Hrv with an electronic emergency brake that had a computer malfunction where it wouldn't release the brake for no apparent reason. They can't even make simple shit foolproof yet.
