No surprise but glad they did it quick Good run in NY but it was time. Here’s to some luck in the draft lottery.
I guess the postgame interview where he said the coaching staff was the best part of the organization made gorton Fire this delusional gum chewing fuck instead of tmo or Monday. Prediction he will end up with Edmonton and McDavid will be moved to the 4th line
AV had a great run. With a little more puck luck they would have won the cup in 2014. The 2013-2014 team is on the shelf with the 1994 team. Would like to see the next coach play a physical and hard nosed style
Not surprised one drop as I have been saying. He was gone period, with no shot he'd be back. Now I did think they would do it in a more diplomatic way, but the fact they did it this way, and so quickly, tells you they were done with AV and simply wanted no part of his nonsense anymore.
The other good news is with the Edmonton win we have moved up to 8th in the draft. That is awesome, and in the past 3 days or so we jumped from 10th to 8th, thus increasing our odds to move into the top 3. Good day/night for us yesterday.
Nice guy AV. Good run. However, it is time for a change. Young coach. More defense. More toughness. Especially on defense.
Young head coach with fire in his belly and transmit tough play to the players. Enough of being pushed around and leave ballerina skating to the fools of this league! I want a team to play tough and to take the initiative. No more passive hockey.......make teams pay. Now Gorton it is your move.
AV is a good coach if you have a veteran team but his style runs its course and you can’t have him behind the bench in a rebuild to coach young players. Check out this article from 5 years ago after he was fired in Vancouver. Interesting stuff. http://vancouversun.com/news/community-blogs/why-canuck-coach-alain-vigneault-deserved-to-be-fired
Very similar theme as some of the articles today. AV works in short bursts when he follows a coach who instills D and toughness (it is no surprise his best years were right after Torts got fired). Over time his style and approach wear thin. To me the real downfall started in the Ottawa series. Until then I was okay with AV, but he absolutely killed us in that series, and was a huge reason we didn't beat a team we were clearly better than. If the Rangers had won that series I bet he is not fired today coming off another ECF run. There is no doubt in my mind that series started him down this path in Gorton's eyes. This season was a continuation of that terribly coached series by AV, and as much as this season that series led to his firing.
Ironically enough I thought that Ottawa also sealed Torts fate when he didn't dress John Scott to exact revenge for their assault on Brian Boyle. AV had an opportunity to do great things with arguably the best roster in the NHL during his tenure in Vancouver but could only bring home a few Presidents trophies.
For me, besides the Ottawa fiasco, was his approach to consistently lose to Rangers’ cross town rivals, the Devils and Islanders. He played it like”Ho-Hum”.
