Long haul and context. Can we wait until he has a consistent starting lineup around him before we truly critique his game from night to night? Also. How many centers have good games against Jokic?? I don’t know but I bet there aren’t many.
Did I say anything about this game? Also, don't bet on thing you "don't know" about. I found centers against Jokic for you. It does not look to good.
This is not backing up your argument. Joel is the only guy who had a stellar game. Not many on that list had good games against Jokic when you equate the minutes played. When averaging the minutes or per 36, most (more than half)look to be similar to what Ayton did last night. Then one must also compare these games to the individual players’ long term averages to determine if it was a good game or bad game. Were the stats against Jokic better or worse than their annual/career averages? You did not back that up very well. Im not saying he played well against Jokic. Im saying let’s not critique him off a poor game against arguably the best center in the league. Again his career averages are fine for our needs.
Yeah right? Another factor missing in the counterargument is that it didn't show what Jokic had in those games.
Quick says Ayton not been great behind the scenes: "Although his play has spiked for the better in the past month, his first months in Portland were defined by tardiness and tantrums according to team sources. And there has been an eerie resemblance to Hassan Whiteside, the former Blazers' center whose statistics looked nice, but had little to no impact on the game."
how wonderful "if true", and we have to consider the source, how many yrs left does he have - too many I think
Maybe Ayton is not okay with 62 point loss and just playing the young guys to get them experience. I know a lot on here just want them to play the young guys as many minutes as they can and who cares about wins or how big the losses are, but I doubt many of the players share that feeling.
That's a real bummer. His timeline fits with our potential core overall and I was hoping he could be a long term fixture, but some people just cant get out of their own way due to lack of self awareness and environmental/situational IQ. I was turned off by his comment about being a max player and will continue to be, and this new info puts the nail in the coffin that he is not my personal long term fix at the C position.
Good point, but then be mature and professional about it. Go behind the scenes to the coach and management and express such opinions in private without speaking out and letting it get leaked to the media.
Who knows what conversations he has had with the coach and management? I know I want more then one line from quick to believe there is a issue.
Another valid point. I'm not able to view the athletic and have not been the biggest Quick fan. I was mostly basing my posts off of my trust in Illmatic that it was sound in the assessment of what he described. It does play into the max player comment though, which showed little, to any, introspective and a stubborn stance. Like I said when that came out, I respect much more players who just putt heir head down, work hard and let that speak for them.
Pretty much everything in his history indicates that winning isn't always is his biggest priority. If someone is repeatedly telling you and showing you who they are.... more likely than not, that is who they are. The ice storm driveway incident followed by his "max player" comment really soured me on him.
