Is Napier the answer? He looked decent in garbage time and rarely played meaningful minutes.

IMO he's not. Neither is Evan Turner.

My plan would be to package our 2018 first-rounder (+filler) for TJ McConnell - he's not a shooter/scorer (20% from three) but as a backup he brings well above average defense and can legitimately run an offense. A gritty intangibles player.

    What say you?

Meh, I'd rather have somebody other than Napier but as long as Dame and CJ are around, our "back-up PG" is going to function more as a third PG unless that player has the size to guard both 1's and 2's.

It's why Mitchell was one of my preferred players in the draft. Versatile point of attack defender + shooting is the ideal skill set for this team out of that back-up 1/2. I understand why they went Collins over him though.

Napier was drafted at the behest of LeBron James. You do the math.

my only issue with Shabazz is he is playing for a new contract next season as a RFA. not a great market but likely there are future cheaper alternatives especially if looking for continuity in the future if he leaves after getting a significant offer. this is the summer of nurk getting payed and maybe noah. not much left for Shabazz.

That's a good thing. Hopefully he'll give us a solid year and play his way off our books.

Jorge Gutierrez is a taller TJ McConnell. Also handsomer and less annoying.

Napier was great last year and absolutely played meaningful minutes and hit big shots when there were injuries. But apparently, you haven't watched our team play. CJ MCCOLLUM IS OUR BACKUP POINT GUARD. We don't need fucking TJ McConnell.

You guys are severely underrating TJ!

He's exactly the type of guard you want to throw at Curry. And yes, he's most definitely worth a mid/late first.

    Counterpoint: no he isn't.

Yes, he works hard. That's the only reason he's in the NBA, given that he is undersized and undertalented. We need our backup PG to be able to guard SGs given that we have three PGs on the roster who can play SG.

Other people named in that same article:
    Wilson Chandler
    Tyler Johnson
    Marcus Morris
    James Johnson
(And, of course, Dame and CJ)

You want to trade a 1st for T.J. McConnell???

We don't need a backup PG. CJ is our backup PG. Napier is our 3rd string. Turner is our 4th string in case of emergency.

I like you Fez, but I just don't see it as a need. And a 1st rounder for TJ is a bad idea, and trust me, I know bad ideas. We can't really be a player in free agency for a while, but we can still improve through trades. That 1st round pick is an asset you don't just throw away for TJ.

Stotts always has CJ or Lillard on the floor. Having a true backup point is a waste of a roster spot as long as that continues. As that takes the ball out of the hands of those two players.
