There has been talk from FIFA that they will be looking into banning the vuvuzelas. There is a split, though very small, that believe removing them from the tournament would kill the country's "traditional" atmosphere. What atmosphere!!!??? Vuvuzelas are a nuisance and should be banned.
Vuvuzelas are what South African fans do when they are at football matches. Everyone else just needs to get over it.
Players are being carded for continuation of play because they can't hear the whistle, communication is limited to none and fans, players and even the commentators and announcers are bothered by it. I say ban the damn things. They reach 130 db which is over the pain threshold. People are so annoyed at the matches that FIFA "ran out" of ear plugs. You could always bring your own, but that should be enough of a hint.
The audience chanting and signing is part of football. I've basically heard none of it, just the perpetual buzzing of the vuvuzelas. But I don't think they should be banned. If that is what the South Africans want to do, so be it. Supposedly the horns are notoriously dirty and for spreading germs.
Apparently they are making some new ones which are less annoying. If the fans are enjoying them so be it.
For the people at the matches, it sure looks like they are enjoying them. We aren't exactly the ones shoveling out loads of cash for the tickets to the matches, so if the people there want to blow a vuvuzela for 90 minutes, let them!
SHIT YEAH! Get rid of them. I've watched almost every single match so far, but I don't think I'll be watching any more except the Australia games. Watch a few matches, and they're annoying, but you can put up with it. Watch lots of matches, and they just drive you crazy you in the end. I certainly wonder if ratings will be affected. Pity there's no way of telling how many people are watching games muted. I also wonder if DVD sales of World Cup matches will be down because of this. I've heard that they can be so loud, that they cause ear damage. Doesn't FIFA have some kind of duty of care to the players, and coaching staff?
It was official yesterday that FIFA will not ban them. Also they can cause severe hearing damage because they reach 130 db.
Well you don't have to worry about that, do you? You're ears are fine. It is part of their culture. Glad FIFA left it alone.
