Eh. Yeah, maybe some of them should be called. But not the majority. Most players are defending him the way Freeland defends guys attacking the basket - keep the arms straight up and the body contact won't get called. Rarely do defenders bring their arms down on Lillard. His problem is he's going in with the intention of drawing a foul - he's creating the body contact, but not getting a good shot off after he creates contact.
You are right about the arms straight up, BUT you can't jump into the offensive player. You have to jump straight up. If you go to the 1:38 mark, you'll see Lillard drive and I think Kanter jump into Lillard with his chest while his two arms are straight up. That's a foul, and guys like Harden would get that call no problem.
Or maybe he knows EXACTLY what he wants to do and goes out and does it. He knows his place in this team.
But why does he decide to be assertive with his shot some nights, and then completely go away from it on other nights? I'm not someone who expects him to average a lot of points, but I find it perplexing how he can only take 5 shots in 33 minutes.
Ya he was stumbling around the tv truck after the game. Guess he had to go get stitches. He was a local guy from SLC.
I disagree. Kanter jumped and moved in the same direction Lillard was moving, he didn't jump into Lillard. There was contact, but Kanter didn't create the contact. I see it kinda similar to an offensive foul - the defensive player doesn't need to be set, as long as he's moving into space that isn't being occupied by the offensive player he can draw a charge while sliding their feet.
Ah, but when they make contact, they are well within the circle, which would be a blocking foul. When Dame leaves his feet, I see Kanter jump into him creating contact, and because they're within the circle it should be a defensive foul.
Long story short, when it comes to Lillard getting calls he is clearly not getting as many as he should but the good thing about that is that when he finally does he will be on that Harden level of annoying for opposing fans and more importantly a huge weapon at the end of games given his great free throwing shooting percentage.
Just a trend I noticed. When he gets more than 8 FTA, he has a big night. Last night was not bad, but his shot was off.
Referee's persepective: Kanter jumped straight up into his vertical plane. Principles of Verticality. That is not a foul.0 People getting that call should not be. If they are, the ref is most likely out of position and not looking through the players. Edit: Kanter is actually jumping backwards and Lillard is creating every ounce of the contact. There is contact but it is not illegal by either player. It's a good no call.
What about being in the circle though? The fact is this, whether people should or should not be getting that call, they ARE getting that call. Guys like Harden, LeBron, Durant, Westbrook, Wade, etc. I want to see our star get the same calls.
Word! I wish he were a little more aggressive on the offensive end because so often he has a mismatch in his favor. Also, if that creates more shots for him and less for No Williams, then I'm quite ok with that.
