but if this ultimately forces Utah to move Boozer this offseason, that is something pretty significant for division rival Portland. The reason they move Boozer is for capspace, I don't know how you can suggest that they'll be taking back cheaper players that will help their club. It's almost as big a stretch to suggest that replacing CB with Millsap in the starting line won't hurt them... dude is a starter and an All Star. If the Jazz are forced to move Boozer for capspace it hurts them big time. STOMP
That's just it though. They can't really move him for cap space. Usa dn OKC are pretty much the only teams that can help them with that....I think. Moving Boozer woul require taking back players. Since they have a very good PF in waiting (Millsap) adding other players to weaker possitions would only help them
That's the whole point, though. Portland really is the only team that would be both able and willing to help them move Boozer for cap space. Extending the contract to Milsap gave Portland this leverage. Now Utah has to decide if they want to: 1. Swallow their pride and work to upgrade the team that just fucked them over (us), while losing Boozer for what will likely amount to a few scrubs and our cap space 2. Lose Milsap and get nothing back 3. Or pay a ridiculous amount of luxury tax There's really no good choice here for Utah. #3 seems off the table entirely. If #1 happens, I have no doubt that Portland media will spin this as "Portland once again failing to get their man." If #2 happens, I have no doubt that Portland media will spin this as "The Blazers panicking over their failure to get Hedo, they get a redundant backup power forward without addressing any of their PG/SF needs." Assuming they decide to do #1 and move Boozer, I doubt they get anything of value in return. Why would Portland allow them to have anything but table scraps? Portland would probably prefer #2 to happen. If Utah trades Boozer this summer and Portland facilitates it, I'd bet on Utah getting nothing better than 8th men or worse in return. Trading Boozer for that will be a serious downgrade.
Yep, I was at that game, and I'll never forget his baseline dunk and his screaming afterwards. The guy has real talent, and I can't wait to see it blossom this year.
With logic like this I find some humor in you branding others "idiot posters". With or without Millsap on their books, they are over the lux tax line with 4 roster spots left to fill. Retaining PM and not outright dumping Boozer's 12.3M utilizing Portland or the Thunder's cap space somehow will cost them about 18M this season after the lux tax. The Jazz are not a marquee club. Personally I could see Olk. City wanting to add an All-Star low post threat to their lineup. If they trade Boozer to other clubs and need to match salaries, I very much doubt they'll shore up their roster to an equal level... there is a reason teams covet getting the best player in a deal. Millsap is already a step down from Carlos and they'll no longer have him as a quality reserve. We shall see STOMP
Well, if Utah doesn't want to pay $12MM in luxury tax and $10.3MM out of pocket, then they do have to deal with us. OKC is saving their cap space; they're not helping Utah. Memphis is using that cap space to going after AI. That leaves us.
I thought the Jazz didn't want Boozer to take his player option for another year? If so they would have lost him for cap space in the first place if it was up to them.
Can you people bitch about the Millsap thing in a Millsap thread? Not a Bayless thread? Anyhow, great interview by Bayless. Good to hear. I hope he plays well this year.
