Good post. I agree everything you said. You consolidate now before you know what you have and you will have another Pertovic or Jermaine O'neal scenario. KP can take his time. He is in control not the players. For me it comes down to one too many PG's And maybe one too many SF's. I say maybe because I think Travis AND eventually Batum can play a little 4. In that scenario Frye might be the odd man out. Here is what i would like to see for the future (After this year) Top 9 Three guard rotation: Roy, Rudy, Bayless Forwards: LA, Webster, Travis, Batum Center: Oden, Joel KP has to decide between one of the SF's and Frye And one more (Between Sergio, Blake or Koponen) Again demanding few minutes He will also need to add a big banger at the PF that will demand few minutes. (In case of injuries or bad match ups) So really no trades are needed. No reason to bring someone in that will want big minutes. You all can dream all you want for a blockbuster trade.
consolidation trade? How about... Bayless/Blake/Outlaw/Frye/Raef for Nash/Diaw/Hill Diaw is hated in Phoenix (as is his contract) for being non-aggressive, but he hasn't been utilized properly and could use a kick in the pants. He is, however a guy who plays the right way. Steve would really help our bigs develop and make us a championship contender immediately, however I'm not sure I'd make this move (as we give up a ton) definite consolidation. Nash/Sergio Roy/Fernandez Webster/Hill/Batum Aldridge/Diaw Oden/Pryzbilla As Hill, Nash, and Diaw expire (consecutively) more and more of our core is left to carry the load. Even if Nash was a two year "rental" the contributions in helping our other players awareness in running the court and feeding the bigs with easy buckets/rewarding cutters would be invaluable over the next 8-10 years IMO. It would also really accelerate Roy's development in playing off the ball and cutting (which is the next logical thing to add in his game, and properly utilize our bigs) and make him an even more dangerous player.
You are joking right? Don't you think its a little lopsided? Switch Bayless for Blake and Maybe the Suns would not laugh out loud.
oh, sorry. I meant to have Bayless in there from the beginning. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=2167~336~592~3417~1994~2754~454~2015&teams=22~22~22~21~21~21~21~21&te=&cash=
sure there is... Bayless is probably a future starter, but the PG needs to know how to be a coach on the floor and Nate has him right where he wants him for the lessons on how to be his coach... and Blake is an excellent mentor IMO. Once JB takes over he probably won't be heading back to the bench for a while. I expect him to start getting regular PT early in 2009 probably at Blake's expense. It's going to happen, let it. STOMP
Good news for Bayless: Bayless would completely destroy Sergio in a game of 1-on-1. Bad news for Bayless: It's a 5-on-5 game. I'm hopeful that Bayless will continue to improve in practice and become better than Sergio at 5-on-5 too! I'd like to see JB takeover starting PG 20 or so games before the end of the season! But.... I want him to deserve it. Right now he doesn't. I'd like to see Batum takeover the starting spot from Webster later in the season too!! JB+Roy+Batum+LMA+Oden = pretty D-A-R-N good defensive team!
