I don't know if it means anything, but my daughter has light brownish/blonde hair, wears it long with a pony tail and was an all state soccer player. Coincidence?
Lol, I don't need to move on from anything... It's not my opportunity to man up. I'm enjoying the ride either way....
When you have stars that draw a lot of attention, you really want to surround them with 3 & D guys - guys who don't need the ball to be effective, but when they're passed to, hit the open shot. It doesn't matter what position your stars play, surrounding them with 3 & D guys is fantastic. I've been interested in KB for a long time since he fits that bill. However, he's been too expensive in the past. Now, we got him FOR A NEGATIVE ASSET, I am thrilled. Just watched the presser, and I like him even more now. High character, comes from Old Dominion.
His fit would and flexibility (2/3) would seem to be perfect. I'm anxious to see if he improves in this system. Nice to have another guy who has been to conference finals as well.
This is a great post. But we really do know that, don't we? We've been down that road. I've seen no evidence to suggest we could get a better GM than Olshey (if you have some evidence we could I'd love to see it). When we've tried to do that we have typically failed. He's the best we've found since the salary cap became an issue. All available evidence leads me to believe that running him out of town would be unwise if winning more is our goal. Again, what makes you think we could get somebody better? Why would a better GM come here?
The problem is we really don't know, if someone else would do a better job or not. We know that all GM’s make some bad moves and some good ones. Neil has done some really bad stuff, but at the same time has done some really good things and as of now has mostly worked his way out of the really bad moves he’s made. Right now running him out of town wouldn't make much sense, but either of the past two summers, I think a good argument could be made to move on. The thing about hiring a GM would be you don't know if they would be better or worse, say they fired neil and went out and found a guy who hadn't GM’d ever before, theres a chance that guy could someday be their best GM ever. They could go out and pay Ujiri or Buford 30M a year to bring them in, and they could turn out to be disasters. My point is that while we have history to say well this guy is good, its their future moves we cant know. The problem I see with the argument that well if you want to win, you have to keep Neil, Neil’s next 10 moves could all end up being awful, we don't know that yet. Who knows maybe another GM could have come in and had more success than Neil has.
The games are at the Surf Cup Fields in Del Mar. Ya this thing is big time. Tons of college scouts there today. Couple weeks ago they streamed the draws for teams like it was the world cup. Very impressed with how dialed in it all is. Girls got a L today unfortunately to a team from Atlanta. Play a team from NY they beat in the spring, so hope it goes better than today.
Well we can look at history... Typically Neil Olshey makes moves that tend to increase the win total. We know that because we are arguably a better team every season under him. As were the Clippers when he was there. That's not coincidence. It's not luck. The guy is good. We know what happens when you hire people with no prior GM experience... We've been down that road. Usually it ends badly. Nearly always. But yes. You can play the lottery. You can gamble. But that hasn't historically worked out well for us.
Still too soon. She has been getting these invitations to what they call College ID camps around the country. This club she is with now have created these laminated bios of the girls that they had out to scouts at these tournaments. Taking it slow and want to make sure she is going to land in the best situation for her. She just turned 14 and starts HS this fall.
This. NO has done a good job of making incremental and marginal improvements. Very shrewd moves to keep us in the playoff hunt and relevant. But we’ve yet to really take that next step. Yes, I know we made the WCF this year, but nobody took us all that seriously along the way. His FA moves have been questionable. We’ve dodged the bullet on several moves by luck (even signing ET because Chandler Parsons passed on us was semi-lucky). Can NO do something now to help us take that next level where folks see us as a legitimate contender?
If NO can't bring us a title, he sucks. Just because no small market team without LBJ or Duncan has won one in the last 40 years, it doesn't matter.
Was getting NO not a gamble to begin with? He hadnt been the GM in LAC very long, I mean it is always a gamble when you make moves, new GM, coach, players, yeah never know. Which is basically my point, I don't think the argument that NO is as good as Portland can do really holds up, you may think he’s as good as they can do, and you “might” be right, but we don't know that.
I know I've said it before, but we have a championship quality team RIGHT NOW! We just need Nurk to be healthy going into the playoffs. I truly believe he's a better defensive center than Gobert now, or at least he was playing like it before he broke his leg.
