I don't find it suspicious at all. He failed to file with the state in April. That was only 2 months ago. His failure to follow the law (whether intentionally or unintentionally) is what triggered this. If he would have filed when he was supposed to, I doubt the Oregonian would have found out. It's his own fault that this came to light.
I am honestly incredulous as to how some of you are: A) Blaming the Oregonian for this and B) So upset that this is ruining your precious college baseball season. It's really quite shameful.
If this is response to my comment about the O, I am incredulous in your inability to read. If it's not, then apologies. I don't really see anyone blaming the O on this site (but I haven't scoured every post in this thread). But I see people questioning the O, just as they do with every shit-stirring and oddly-timed article they release. In the comments to the initial article, I did see people blaming the newspaper, though.
Not talking to you, although I didn't say that I believed Canzano. Just that I agree with him this one time. The question is whether you believe the Beaver beat writer who broke the story. His timeline makes sense.
I guess if you're going to believe "once a pedophile, always a pedophile", I'd expect you'd believe that "once a lying shit-stirring attention whore, always a lying shit-stirring attention whore." I don't think the timeline is totally unreasonable or unrealistic, but I have little doubt that the article could easily have been released even a week earlier, but the O made a choice to maximize the attention and impact.
I actually got this info from here first and not the Oregonian....and maybe you're sensationalizing thinking we're so upset...it's not ruining my baseball season...it's ruining his though.
Who is doing B? Last time I checked, they won last night and still have good odds. Come on Nate, everyone in here has admitted it's a terrible situation and that he did something extremely fucked up.
It's mostly Riverman who keeps bringing up the playoffs/his career. But it's also mostly Beaver fans who are in here being lenient on the guy. Obviously this place isn't even remotely as bad as OLive.... holy shit the comments in there. It's depressing.
Oh, I totally think that about Canzano.... but this isn't his story. He didn't break it. He's just capitalizing on it. And if they had leaked it a week earlier, would it have made a difference? The season would still have a black mark, and they would still be in the middle of a playoff run. It would make no difference.
I think I explained in detail why......it seems you have a hard time with it....it's a question I asked myself when I thought about it. I'm not being subjective here..trying to be objective. I'm not a cop and we don't know the whole story here. It's all speculation. I'm also not angry about a baseball game. I do feel you're sort of baiting me along those lines and coming from you, it's surprising to me.
I don't really care because none of this affects me. But I don't think this coming out is helping that little girls life. I'd say it's hurting both of their lives. Everyone hating on him isn't helping the girl.
This is very true. Sports are not the thing to get into if this is on your record. Sports, music, politics. Those types of careers are probably not a wise choice in the internet age.
Do you think that you can "cure" being gay? I'm not saying they're the same thing.... but I also don't pretend to understand attraction. I don't know if it's biological or psychological. What makes us attracted to what we're attracted to? I have friends that knew they were gay from a very young age. They believe that they were born gay. So are people born as pedophiles? And if so, how can you cure them of it?
It isn't speculation. We do know everything that matters. I didn't make you post those things. 1. He admitted to and was convicted of child molestation in the state of Washington, where they do not allow minors to seal their records for certain offenses. 2. He moved to Oregon where he is required to register as a sex offender. 3. He did not register within the required time after turning 21 and was charged. 4. The Oregonian found out because he did not follow the law and they looked into his past. 5. The Oregonian published the story. There's nothing to be unclear about. He plead guilty, he was convicted. The nitty gritty is unimportant. He's a sex offender, plain and simple, and sex offenders are not permitted the luxury of anonymity. They are registered for a reason. We have laws specifically designed to keep sex offenders from repeating. He committed the crime in a state that will not allow you to seal your records. He moved to a state that required him to register as a sex offender. These were all HIS decisions. This was going to come out, one way or another.
We don't know everything that matters...we know he didn't register in April....we don't know his counseling results or the girls....you don't make me post anything Nate....I own my own words...apparently you're as quick to judge my take on the story as you are him. I posted about reasonable doubt and you don't believe he's curable...nuff said...you can see me as a guy who puts sports ahead of child protection but you'd be wrong.
I think some pedophiles realize their urges are wrong, and never act on them. I believe they can be taught to suppress their urges. That doesn't mean they're cured. That means that they just never act on them again. But you never answered my question. Do you think that gay people can be "cured" of being gay?
I think people can change and they do....I don't believe being gay is a criminal offense and even remotely connected to pedophilia. Consenting adults can make their own choices with consenting adults. I'm not lumping whole segments of the population into a box. I don't believe gay people need to explain their sexuality to anyone....I DO THINK YOUNG PEOPLE MAKE BAD DECISIONS and in this case get into trouble because of them....I think a 15 year old boy can grow up and change his behavior. I think addiction can be cured.
I don't think being gay is wrong first of all and here, it's not illegal. Oral sex is illegal in many places....imagine getting arrested for that.
