Ben Carson: Egyptian pyramids were grain stores, not pharaohs' tombs Egypt’s pyramids were built by the biblical Joseph to store grain and were not, as archaeologists believe, tombs for pharaohs, Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carsonhas said. The retired neurosurgeon, who is seeking his party’s nomination for the White House, made these remarks in a 1998 address at Andrews University, a Michigan school associated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, to which he belongs, in a video posted on Buzzfeed on Wednesday. The church is a conservative evangelical Christian one. In this 1998 speech, Ben Carson says the pyramids in Egypt were built to store grain “My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain,” Carson – who last week overtook Republican rival Donald Trump for the first time in a national poll – told graduates in his address. “Now all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohs’ graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. “And I don’t think it’d just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain.” Asked on Wednesday if he still held these views, Carson told CBS News: “It’s still my belief, yes.” Speaking to MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Thursday, rival Republican Trump said: “He’s informed me about the pyramids. I think I’ll have to put that in my repertoire about Ben. That was a strange deal.” In his 1998 address, Carson said: “And when you look at the way that the pyramids are made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they’d have to be that way for various reasons. “And various of scientists have said, ‘Well, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and that’s how, you know, it doesn’t require an alien being when God is with you’.” Six controversial views from the good doctor. In the old testament book of Genesis, Joseph, one of the 12 sons of Jacob, was said to have “stored up grain in great abundance like the sand of the sea, until he stopped measuring it, for it was beyond measure”. After seven years of plenty, the story in Genesis says, Egypt suffered seven years of famine, during which Joseph was able to feed the people with the grain he had stored. Carson has spoken often about his faith, saying recently of his critics: “They say, ‘Carson, you know, how can you be a surgeon, a neurosurgeon, and believe that God created the Earth, and not believe in evolution, which is the basis of all knowledge and all science?’ … “But I do believe God created us, and I did just fine … And in fact, the more you know about God, and the deeper your relationship with God, I think the more intricate becomes your knowledge of the way things work, including the human body.”
Most pyramids are 99% solid and weigh millions of tons. Assuming he knew that he would have to be pretty damn insane to still claim they were grain storage facilities. He seems to be more of a willfully ignorant moron.
Regardless if you being in, what you call magic or how believers call acts of God, there is insurmountable evidence they are tombs. There is mummified bodies, treasure and even writing stating this. And the reality is that there are no writings that say they stored grain. In fact, there is nothing in the Bible even that talks about these pyramids being grain storages. His claim is completely ludicrous.
http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/dsteppyramid3.htm The Mortuary Temple, Serdab, Northern Courtyard and the West Mounds of the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara, Egypt North of the mortuary temple and the serdab courtyard is the north courtyard, which covers almost a third of the entireDjosercomplex. This area has not yet been carefully investigated. However, in the northern part of these grounds, symbolic storehouses were found with round openings in their roofs through which grain was poured. There was also a group of chapels that are reminiscent of the buildings in the sed festival courtyard. On the northern edge of the complex, along its north-south axis, from the inner wall of the northern wing of the enclosure wall, is a raised platform accessed by a stairway ramp. Above, on the platform, there is a depression measuring about eight meters square and a few centimeters deep. This enigmatic structure has led to an interesting and still unconcluded debate among Egyptologists. ... Once again, the investigation of the west mounds is not yet complete, but excavations here have shown that there are no chambers in their superstructures. Besides size, the mounds also differ from each other in appearance.Lauerthought the easternmost had a flat roof, whereas the middle one had a gentle arched roof. The slightly inclined side walls were decorated with niches, while five shafts and staircases provided access to the substructure, which is composed of long, partly destroyed corridors and projecting side chambers. In some sections, a large number of fragments of stone vessels were found, together with grains (barley and wheat) and dried fruit. ... Most Egyptologists currently seem to believe that this was a storage area more than anything else, which would explain the pottery fragments and grain found in the substructure.
I think it's unclear if Carson meant ALL of the pyramids or just the early ones or even the first one. You'd also have to consider when Joseph lived in relation to when and which pyramids were built. If he's in agreement with the egyptologists, some people out to get him have egg on their faces.
As for the pyramids with storage... I seem to remember that inside the tombs were food, treasure and various other items needed for the Pharaoh to use in his afterlife. Of course there would be pottery that carried food and grain because they are what the ancient Egyptians believed was needed for their afterlife.
And?! He was a pharaoh right? That was in response that all the tombs were raided of their treasure. Obviously not all were.
