If he thinks CJ is a role player, why did he offer Simmons for CJ and 3 picks?

Assuming that the reports on that were correct, I guess that Morey thought that CJ plus 3 first round picks plus 3 pick swaps would be equivalent to a difference-maker. Is anyone around here interested in Simmons at that price? I’m sure as hell not.

Yes I get that and agree that could be the chance Morey is aiming for. But how does insisting Ben play improve the odds of those team's increasing offers? I think Brooklyn, us, or another team would give up the same or more assets if Ben is sitting at home vs having this bitter ugly hold out.

The only way I see Ben's involvement with the 6ers actually increasing his value is if he can rejoin the team, play in games, and play well. Is that really what Morey is aiming for?

3 picks and 3 pick swaps. Because all those picks have more value than CJ; its more pick equity than the haul for Paul George, Anthony Davis, James Harden, or basically any trade in NBA history. Simmons isn't at the level of those players, so it would be Morey "winning" a trade as he is obsessed with doing.

Another thing we need to keep an eye on is the foul rule changes. Scoring is down throughout the league, and defense is up. Scorers who get to the line are seeing significantly less attempts. CJ doesn't rely on getting to the line to score, so we might see an increase in his effectiveness relative to other star/all-star/quality starting level players. We also might see a change in the value of defensive players or the types of players that excel defensively.

Also as others have said many times, we have a new coach for the first time in Dame/CJ careers, and we have a team much deeper than 90% of the Blazer teams the last few decades. We have players up and down the roster either new to the team, expanded minutes, or with significantly changed roles. Just more reasons to give this roster ~30+ games to see how they are performing before we try to adjust a possible or not possible shortcoming in a trade.

3 of our picks won’t get him a difference maker

I can just about guarantee the if the trends continue and elite scorers are scoring less the officials will start 'adjusting' their whistles.

I sure hope not. If David Stern was running things yes it would. But you have a lot of powerful rich new owners, and more owners in smaller markets, who ultimately are Adam Silver's boss.

most fans don't buy tickets or tune in to see defense. And TV advertisers want a bigger audience.

Maybe, maybe not. It kind of depends on whether Simmons would work out here or whether the trade might cause an implosion that could lead to Dame demanding his way out of town. I'd sure hate to enter a rebuild situation, with lottery picks likely at stake, where three of the Blazers' next few years' draft picks were going to get picked up by Philly and another three picks with them where our lottery pick gets swapped for their late first rounder. OTOH, maybe Morey really values CJ more than he's letting on and wants the draft capital as icing on the cake. I happen to think that CJ is exactly the kind of perimeter threat that would work well with Embiid.

I for one am glad they changed the rules, while I love scoring I think free throws destroy the pace of the game. Interesting to see how much Harden relied on free throws to pad his scoring. Also helped him keep spacing because defenders were scared to get ticky tack fouls.

Harden got 4 firsts and 3 swaps, didn’t it?

It is nice that nothing happened in preseason. Now we know, we can't afford to add neither Ant or Little to CJ trade.
    Looks like Covington now.
I voted for strait swap and I like RoCo, but I can agree to add his and pull the trigger.
Just need CJ to go for 40 on some next game:)

I get that point, but it's more of the fans putting pressure on the team to end this shit as soon as possible. You know how uncomfortable he will be when he is playing in front of those fans and they're booing him. He might play like shit lol. That shit will be so toxic, I think that actually makes Morey speed this shit up and trade him quicker.

Then you have the talk of Simmons just sitting out till December 15th I think it is, when free agents can be traded and more trade scenarios are possible. I think that is very likely too, and a decent chance Simmons never even steps foot on the Sixers court again.

Yeah, I don't see how Simmons plays for them again. He can just seek treatment for back spasms in LA and collect his paycheck.

Another thing to add to this scenario is this: If Blazers trade CJ for Ben, Dame will have to score more. I mean, 'we have shooters' still, we have Ant, Powell and Nas to score what CJ do, but Dame will have to add +5points to his average and this will help him with his MVP quest. Our defense will improve and we will be in top3. It is a win situation for everybody.

I wish the Kings would just trade Fox for Simmons before everyone realizes that Fox is way overrated.
    upload_2021-10-30_10-41-21.png

Added bonus: you get rid of the two reminders that Sacto didn't take Doncic (Fox is the main reason they didn't and Bagley is the bust they took instead) and swap them for a guy who, as much as anyone can, has a shot at being a Doncic-stopper.

Of course, Simmons can't shoot, but (a) neither can Fox, and (b) finally Buddy Hield starts paying off for that team (actually, he already has).

He will end up in CA. Thats where he wants to go an players like him seem to get their wish. You know his agent is going to work all the angles.
