Simmons would not be breaching the contract. The CBA (thus the contract) outlines what happens when a player fails to report. Think of it as a 'remedy' written into the contract. They could fine him for missing practices (~$5,000 per session) and for missing games. So the Team could withhold a few thousand dollars for the fine. However, if they don't pay by Oct 1 - then Philly would be the ones breaching contract.

    ok, thanks

Simmons getting 8M would take some of the pain away from him refusing to report

I wonder if that 8M is a locked amount, of if the 76ers can deduct what they have paid Simmons for August. If he has already had a couple of paychecks totaling 2-3M, would that mean he'd get 8M on top of that?

Exactly. If Simmons goes to GSW all the detractors on the board will see exactly how terribly, horribly wrong they are as GSW become a #1-2 seed in the West. Curry playing at MVP level, with Kerr coaching Simmons would be a nightmare and we would regret not making the move 3 games a season and would also weep bitterly as GSW vaults to the WCF and maybe the Finals.

All the folks saying Dame is the best leader in sports etc. are exactly correct. What baffles me is they think Simmons is such a headcase that not even the best Leader in sports can inspire him. Amazing and all based on one series, which was run by maybe the most overrated, secretly bad coach in the NBA, and also a guy I consider to be among the most toxic in the League in Embiid.

The other comment is if the Blazers do land Simmons for CJ + at MOST (and I'd prefer almost any other non-Lillard trade) RoCo, or CJ plus Little and maybe a pick, the Simmons detractors will be amazed as we become a top 3 seed in the West and very possibly make the WCF and maybe the Finals.

No, no, it's not Embiid, or Rivers or the toxic fans in Philadelphia it's Ben Simmons not taking all the hate due to being a Prima Donna. :blahblah:

Its odd how you make it sounds absolutely certain Simmons for CJ and other assets would improve the Blazers.

Maybe we trade for Simmons, the team sucks, Dame demands a trade, Simmons demands a California team, and we spend the next decade as the TWolves.

Maybe having CJ Dame Nurk all healthy for their first full season and playoffs will get the Blazers farther than when they went to the WCF without Nurk.

I get that some people are in favor of trading for Simmons and they well could be right its improves the team, but its nowhere close to a sure thing.

Rivers spent the entire season going out of his way to praise Simmons and pump up his confidence in his shooting. He makes one honest ( and pretty mild) critical comment - and that equates to throwing him under the bus?

If that is enough to cause a meltdown, there is not one coach in the league Simmons will be able to co-exist with.

Well, one thing we have a ton of data on. Namely Lillard and CJ together. With sprinklings of Nurkic (health is a big if). The other is an unknown other than i know Simmons is very good edging towards great. I do feel like its a risk, but not nearly as big as so many think. It feels like a sure thing we lose Dame next summer if we don’t make a move so to me its a no brainer thats where my confidence comes in.

I will concede it might not work, but Im close to certain another year of CJ and Nurk wont be good enough and we lose Dame. Standing pat seems the most likely way to lose Dame and therefore is the path of maximum danger. Simmons to me is far less risky than running it back which Dame said wasn’t good enough.

I know I will get killed for saying this, but I would rather trade CJ straight up for Harris than trade CJ and a bunch of other assets for Simmons. If it was CJ straight up for Simmons, you have to at least give it serious consideration, but Philly isn't going to do that.

That's not a bad trade for us, IMO. I don't know how we get Harris who the Sixers seem to be happy with for less than Simmons who is a nightmare right now but Dame, Norm, RoCo, Harris and Nurk makes a ton of sense as a starting lineup. Way more sense than Dame, CJ, Norm, RoCo and Nurk... it's not as great to me as Dame, Norm, RoCo, Simmons and Nurk but it does have less issues with fit.

Dame-CJ-Nurkic have been healthy for 14 playoff games and the Blazer record in those games is 3-11, and two of those wins came against a team missing their 2nd best player and other starting guard

Many folks are risk-averse and have a fear of the unknown. I get it. I'm standing pat and repeating the same mistakes (roster composition) over and over averse. I'd rather swing for the fences and strike out than try a bunt single that is all but guaranteed to get an easy out for the opposing team.

    Simmons sucks.

He's not going to make a team better or take them to a finals.

Where did some rolling eyes video legend come from? Not sure Ive ever posted one? If I did it was a one off thing.

The two things I get passionate about are Olshey being a bad GM and people who have a warped sense of Simmons who is a former All-NBA, multiple time all-star, and second place in DPOY voting last year, somehow being a “bunt single” and/or a terrible player. Those kind of comments are absolutely worthy of an eyeroll.

That said, I’m curious how this legend came about.
