Benitez Contract Mystery Continues

The mystery surrounding Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez's new contract continues as the Liverpool hierarchy have still not offered him a new deal...

Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have been embroiled in a battle to be the owner of the club, and have seemingly reached a stalemate, and this has delayed offering Benitez a new contract.

This situation could lead to a mass exodus of Liverpool stars including Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger, who's contracts are both ending soon.

Kuyt's ends in 18 months time, and with his recent form for the team being nothing short of excellent, the club will want to hold onto his services. Centre back Agger's contract is ending soon and he is pushing for an extension and a pay rise.

The confusion caused by the Benitez contract saga could rumble on and turn the club into chaos, with players leaving because they are unsure of their future.

This is the second time that nothing has been done with Benitez's contract as last April he was promised an extension to his current contract, but that never materialised due to the club's internal struggles.

Speaking to The Mirror last night, Benitez said, "I will not allow the situation to disturb my concentration but, no, I have heard nothing."

Unless something is sorted quickly and Benitez is offered a new contract, Liverpool could find themselves losing their most influential players. If Benitez doesn't stay, Liverpool risk losing the likes of Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Albert Riera and other Spanish players that joined the club because of Benitez.
