Following speculation that Manchester City could be planning a January bid for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch, Reds' manager Rafael Benitez has ruled out selling the England man.

Peter Crouch will not be sold to Manchester City or any other club in January, Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has stated.

City have been linked with a move for Crouch, whose Liverpool future has been the subject speculation in recent months as he has regularly been left out of the starting XI and sometimes even the squad as Benitez continues to rotate his players.

Crouch has started only two Premier League matches this season to date.

And Manchester City owner today revealed on Sky Sports that his manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, was interested in signing a player he admires from their time working together when the Swede was England's head coach.

City need to strengthen their attacking options - but it won't be with Crouch, insists Benitez.

He stressed today that Crouch is not leaving Anfield, and that the striker is still very much part of his plans for Liverpool.

"We do not want to sell Peter. So there could be rumours in the press but we are really happy with him," said Benitez

"The players in a top side know sometimes they will not play every game but you can see how important Peter Crouch is for us

"The other day he was a key player with Harry Kewell [against Porto] and we do not want to do any movement.

"We want to enjoy and see Crouchie score a lot of goals

"Always you know Peter in every training session is a very good professional.

"He is always ready if he must play and if he is not playing he is working hard to be ready for the next time."

Why would Benitez get rid of one of his best players?
