I'd have a hard time leaving Frazier and Monroe out of the top and they didn't have a 3pt shot in their day but for the old guys around here, Pete Maravich and Lou Hudson in their 3rd season togetherwith the Hawks ..Hudson avg 27 and Pistol Pete 26.1 without a 3 pt shot. All these guys also played before the hand checking rule was implemented.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Magic and Byron Scott. Is our Laker hatred that strong here? (I didn't read the article.)
Didn't Magic And Kobe play together for a year when Magic came back? IF those two would have been on the same team for a duration, hands down best ever.
In Magic's second season, both he and Norm Nixon averaged over 8.5 assists per game.. In their third season together, Magic averaged 9.5, Nixon 8.0. In their 4th season together, 10.5 and 7.2. They won two championships and lost in the finals once in those 4 seasons.
Yeah, but Norm Nixon is hardly remembered for anything other than being traded for Byron Scott. By your numbers, Nixon was clearly on a decline while Showtime was building up speed.
The 3 guard rotation of Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars and Vinny Johnson beat Magic and the Lakers in the 1989 finals 4 games to 0. The next season, Thomas, Dumars and Johnson beat Drexler & Porter in the 1990 finals, 4 games to 1. I did not like this Pistons team, but there is no getting around how good their 3 guard rotation was. Thomas, Dumars and Johnson were one of the best backcourts, if not the best of all time.
http://www.celticslife.com/2013/06/the-10-best-shooting-backcourts-in.html Best list I've found but it goes to show the old school guys really ruled the list
This is the correct choice if you're looking at true NBA history. Check out the list I posted a link to
I found it interesting to see that probably the best list is on a site called Celtics Life and it lists Jerry West and Gail Goodrich as the #1 duo.
If there had been a 3pt shot, West and Pistol Pete would've put up insane offensive stats. West averaged 20.3 with bum knees when he was 35
