Kersey was the hardest playing guy night after night for the Blazers. Defense, speed, rebounding, toughness, I'll take him instead of the Pippen version we got.

And yes, I have a thing for short, fat, syrupy-sweet red guys. If HCP fell asleep in a tanning booth I'd be all over him.

Ranking best athletes in a team sport is like ranking best guitarists or best photographs of sunsets. No 2 are alike and each is impressive in it's own unique ways.

These are the players I would want on my team under any circumstances.

Okay, you got me. Best possible answer without answering, but I get it. Its alot like the Kersey Pippen thing. Which years of which player, or thier whole career, etc?

    Fair enough.

    You're crazy bitch.

Mo Lucas was a good shooter like Aldridge but was a better rebounder, defender, teammate and was WAY tougher.

Nobody in NBA history was better than Walton at playing center.

    I'll let you have the Porter/Lillard toss-up.

    Now go shave your shoulders.

This is a very tough list to compile..center is the easiest
Lillard/Porter/Strickland..I've got these guys in a dead heat
    Drexler/Roy/Petrovic
    Pippen/Kersey/Batum
    Lucas/Aldridge/Sheed
    Walton/Sabonis/Pryz

Fun to think about these guys.

Orion.....Yes, ranked for their Blazers playing days, not entire career.

Petro didn't play super until he left us for NJ. Walton in 1977-78 was best player on the planet, and much better than any season Sabonis played for us.
Kersey was a SMALL FORWARD and better than any season by any other SF in a Blazers uni. Even, Pippen '00.

Although I share your sentiment for Joel, his stats just don't measure up to Owens or Thompson. They didn't keep track of Picks Set!

You're right about this...it was a sentimental throw in for me. I need to watch some old film and make better comparisons from the 70s and 80s rosters as they've become blurry over time. As soon as I compiled a list, I thought about players I've left out. Brian Grant was a personal favorite as well as Danny Ainge..the guys I need to go back and revisit are the Lenny Wilkins, J Johnsons, etc...great thread HR!

<kingspeed> We are so much better than last year, and the year before, and before, and even before that. Our best starting lineup of all time:

    PG- Lillard
    SG- CJ
    SF- Aminu
PF- toss up between Vonleh and Myers
    C- Plumlee

Learn the game and then post. We are going to destroy the warriors. We are their worst nightmare. We are like those dreams where your teeth are falling out, you are naked in school, you are falling off a cliff, and your dick falls off all rolled into one.

    </kingspeed>

Ps. Just joking king. We love you!

Walton was NBA MVP in '78. He ruled! Led league in rebounding and blocks.
I luv Sabonis, but we got the old version in his mid-30's. He was decent, but not better than '78 Walton!

I had trouble between Aldridge and Lucas. Stats very similar. Fair to argue that its a toss-up. But, Wicks' stats rule. He was a Monster. He's #1 PF.

I don't think Sidney Wicks should be in the conversation for best anything, unless the category is Best Team Cancer.

Okay, got it. If thats the case, I go with Wizards list below. Porter was never lights out like Dame and Dame is seriously improving his assists. I think he has already had a better career with the Blazers than Porter has (without checking stats) and the only thing Terry really has is a couple of Finals appearances. As much of a troublemaker Rasheed was, he had a knack of getting under opponents skin as much as the refs. That is a part of the game too. I think he was an unwanting, unspoken leader and the exact type of leader that jail blazers team needed. To me for him, it wasn't just about offensive stats, it was about the impact and his defense.

    I officially approve this list!
