I have not lived in Portland for 5 years now, that's why I can not tell you for sure what they are like now. I believe they are still around. As for Italian pizza, you go to Napoli and they're pizza is not totally different from NY style pizza, you can see that they are different interpretations of the same thing. Chicago style pizza, imho, is something else (good in it's open right)
...as @Shaboid already mentioned, Paddington's in Salem is the very best cracker bottom crispy style crust pizza in the world.
...absolutely, but they are in different categories IMO. MOD is more like thin and crispy, almost flakey. Paddington's is more like Pietro's, but 100 times better I've heard this called "lumberjack" style pizza before. It's definitely only around the Northwest +/-
Cracker bottom cripsy style crust is what I'm talking about! Wanna start a business together @HAAK72 ???
I'll need to go there! I love Abby's for the cracker-style crust pizza. We often drive to Newberg just to get a couple pizzas on the weekend. The Poor Boy special is the best.
Abby's was the only pizza place we had in town growing up. It was so crucial to my childhood... watching the pizza get made, playing Frogger in the corner until I ran out of quarters.
Used to be. They dumbed down their pepperoni. It sucks now. Stark St. used to be but the same thing happened with there.
I’m confused, you are rookie, but post with such wisdom. These are the two best pizza places in town. Well done!
lol. "rookie". I may be newer to this forum here but far from a rookie. especially when it comes to pizza and Blazers.
Straight from New York Pizza. One on Burnside and I think 22nd, one on Belmont. Not to be confused with Escape from New York. It started in Salem (where I grew up) and I audibly yelled when I randomly drove by the one on Burnside for the first time. Didn't know they existed outside of Salem, and apparently it was a recent-ish thing at the time. Big slices like a lot of other places, great toppings, awesome sauce, great crust.
I use to make a sales run through the Eugene area in the 80's and there was a pizza place right on the southside of Franklin Blvd just down from the U of O campus that had an excellent Chicago style pizza. Can't remember the name and likely not there any more.
