I don't often wear steel toed boots when doing construction work, but given that I have the talonavicular joint of an 80 year old and have to wear orthotics, comfortable boots are important to me. For that reason, I use light hiking boots. I have two favorites in particular. The first are the Vasque Breeze: http://www.vasque.com/vasque-shoe/7466-vasque/7466-vasque-mens-breeze-gtx-taupe-burnt-orange The second are the Ecco Yak leather boots: http://www.orvis.com/store/product....m_mmc=Shopping.com*Prod_feeds*Prod_feeds*4489 They are stable, you can be on your feet all day on concrete with them, they're relatively light and can take a beating. If you're looking for steel toe, these are much less comfortable, but are almost impossible to kill: http://www.constructiongear.com/danner-gtx-work-boots-steel-toe-47002.html
Interesting thread. Informative. For many years I wore cheap-ass corks I'd buy at G.I. Joes, I think. Then one day I woke up and decided to become 20 lbs lighter and 2 inches shorter. barfo
