Well, sure. But that would be a radical change. Think how many Hitler mustaches would have to be painted on Obama if he proposed that. barfo
Why? It's a good idea. Let people have all the say so in what coverage they buy. Just like an auto policy. It's a great idea.
I didn't say it wasn't a good idea. I said (well, implied) that it was impossible to pass politically, because the same people who are complaining about very incremental reforms now would have a cow. Regardless of whether it is a good idea or not. barfo
Wanna bet? People oppose this ridiculous health care takeover because a government that hasn't proven it can run anything is asking us to trust them with 16% of our economy. They don't oppose it because they're afraid of change. Hell, people voted for "Change", even if they didn't know the kind of "Change" they'd be voting for. People generally respond well to having more control over their lives. Make individual health insurance tax deductable, allow people to have a tax free health savings account, increase people's pay by the amount employers were paying for health insurance (which puts their pay at exactly the same level as before), allow people to purchase across state lines and allow them to find EXACTLY the level of health insurance they want. You have a winner a majority of the American people can get behind.

That's not me complaining about Obama with a Hitler mustache, that's me pointing out Shooter's lack of consistency on the subject of demonization. barfo
Well, it is either demonization or free speech (or both), as you wish. But it can't be one when it applies to your party and the other when it applies to the other party. barfo
I mentioned that some of the signs at the 9/12 rally were over the top. That's my opinion. These Bush ones are equally so.
Well, we know the majority of people believe there should be a change in the way people are insured. We also know a majority disagree with the Democrats' proposals, whether they come from the House, the Senate or even the conflicting and deceiving policies presented by our President. So, exactly, in your opinion, would garner the backing of the majority of the people?
The majority of people think things should be changed, but only in ways that don't affect them other than making things cheaper or better. Cheaper and better is good, but different is bad, even if it is cheaper and better. Propose that everyone has to change their heath insurance plan, and you will have a large majority in opposition. Propose anything that might negatively impact anyone's taxes, even a couple of dollars, and you will have a lot of opposition. Propose something that is perceived as the government forcing people to do something, and you'll get protests. And of course those whose ox is getting gored by the proposed plan will spend a lot of money lobbying, advertising, and astroturfing against it. So what would gain the backing of the majority of the people? I'm not sure there is any plan that would. Medicine might be good for us, but it tastes bad and we the people are going to scream and kick our feet until you force it down our throats. barfo
