Clay Stapleton dies at age 93

Former Iowa State football coach and Florida State and Vanderbilt athletic director Clay Stapleton has died.

Cyclones spokesman Mike Green said Stapleton's son, Van, notified the school that his father died Thursday morning in Missouri City, Missouri. He was 93.

Stapleton was the coach for the Cyclones from 1958 until 1967, compiling a record of 42-53-4. He's perhaps best known for coaching Iowa State's "Dirty Thirty" team in 1959, so named because they finished 7-3 despite having just 30 healthy players.

Jaden Oberkrom's 37-yard field goal lifts TCU past West Virginia

TCU followed an 82-point outburst at Texas Tech with its worst offensive output of the season at West Virginia. It still added up to another victory.

Jaden Oberkrom kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give the Horned Frogs (No. 7 CFP; No. 10 AP) a 31-30 victory over No. 20 West Virginia on Saturday.

No. 9 K-State shuts down Oklahoma State, 48-14

Kansas State coach Bill Snyder had watched Oklahoma State slice so effortless through his defense on the game's opening drive that he wondered whether the tone had been set.

Morgan Burns didn't give him a chance to think anything more of it.

The speedy cornerback returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown, and that set the Wildcats (No. 9 CFP, No. 11 AP) off and running. Jake Waters threw two TD passes, Charles Jones ran for two more scores and Kansas State routed the Cowboys 48-14 on Saturday night.

Petty, No. 13 Baylor rebound, beat Kansas 60-14

Bryce Petty had three touchdown passes, including two to Corey Coleman, and No. 13 Baylor scored on 11 straight possessions despite looking sluggish at times in a 60-14 victory over Kansas on Saturday.

Trevor Knight runs for 3 TDs, throws for 3 more as Sooners roll

Oklahoma didn't need star wide receiver Starling Shepard to rout struggling Iowa State on Saturday.

But the Sooners (No. 18 CFP, No. 19 AP) could definitely use Shepard next week against high-flying Baylor.

Oklahoma's Trevor Knight became the first FBS player this season to throw three TD passes and rush for three touchdowns in a game and the Sooners trounced Iowa State 59-14.

Trevone Boykin accounts for 4 TDs as TCU trounces K-State

Trevone Boykin had no need for any apologies this time.

Boykin did an acrobatic flip on the second of his three touchdown runs and threw for 219 yards and another score to lead No. 6 TCU to a 41-20 victory over Kansas State (No. 7 CFP, No. 9 AP) on Saturday night in a game with huge Big 12 and playoff implications.

Corey Coleman (15 catches, 224 yards) leads Baylor past Oklahoma

    - Bryce Petty wasn't kidding -- he was "ready for OU."

Baylor's quarterback answered question after question after last week's win over Kansas by reiterating that he was ready for Oklahoma. He backed up his swagger by completing 32 of 42 passes for 387 yards and a touchdown to help the Bears (No. 12 CFP, No. 10 AP) roll past the Sooners (No. 15 CFP, No. 16 AP) 48-14 on Saturday.

Johnathan Gray's 3 TDs push Texas past No. 23 West Virginia

Charlie Strong went to the Texas locker room after the biggest win of his first season as Longhorns coach when he was suddenly surrounded, grabbed and tossed into the air.

    By his players.

Strong is all business, but he's got nothing against a little crowd surfing to celebrate, especially when the postseason is looking more and more like a possibility.

Texas surged closer to a bowl game with a 33-16 win over No. 23 West Virginia on Saturday, powered by three touchdowns and 101 yards rushing from Johnathan Gray and a defense that kept the Mountaineers out of the end zone until the fourth quarter.

No. 4 TCU, down 27-17 in third quarter, rallies past Kansas

TCU coach Gary Patterson spent most of Saturday watching every bounce, blooper and bizarre play go against his team on a frigid afternoon at Kansas.

In the end, the Horned Frogs (No. 4 CFP, No. 5 AP) did just enough to turn back a spirited upset bid by the Jayhawks and remain in contention for the inaugural College Football Playoff.

"A lot of people would have lost that ballgame," Patterson said after the 34-30 win. "There wasn't any style points here other than the fact that we fought back and won the game."

Baylor buries Oklahoma State for 15th straight home victory

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty broke into the open with the end zone in front of him.

Petty and the Bears weren't about to be tripped up by Oklahoma State again.

After throwing touchdowns on Baylor's first two drives that took a minute combined, Petty ran 21 yards for the final score as the playoff-contending Bears won 49-28. They avenged their only regular-season loss of a year ago, a game in which Petty inexplicably tripped at the 1 with a clear path to the end zone.

Trevone Boykin, No. 5 TCU rout Texas as Tyrone Swoopes struggles

TCU took the field on Thanksgiving night determined to send a message to the rest of college football.

The fifth-ranked Horned Frogs delivered one with a 48-10 romp over Texas, and the thousands of their fans who stuck around to the end will be happy to keep chanting "T-C-U!" to anyone who may have missed it.

Baylor holds on as Texas Tech's big rally ends on failed conversion

Everything was kind of blurry when Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty first opened his eyes.

After taking a high hit and being diagnosed with a mild concussion midway through the third quarter, all Petty could do was watch from the sideline as the seventh-ranked Bears held on for a 48-46 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday that made only one thing clear for the playoff contenders.

Jake Waters leads No. 12 K-State past Kansas 51-13

Kansas State (No. 12 CFP, No. 11 AP) gave itself a few minutes in the locker room Saturday to celebrate.

The players celebrated a victory over rival Kansas, and a senior class that helped to restore the program to national prominence. They celebrated a magnificent performance by quarterback Jake Waters and a record-setting career by wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

Then, they all turned their thoughts to what lays ahead.

The Wildcats' 51-13 romp over the Jayhawks set up a showdown at fifth-ranked Baylor next weekend. The winner will earn no worse than a tie for the Big 12 title, and could take the championship outright depending on what happens between TCU and Iowa State.

Bryce Petty throws for 412 yards, guides Baylor to share of Big 12 title

Baylor coach Art Briles accepted another Big 12 championship trophy and stated his case that the Bears (No. 6 CFP, No. 5 AP) should be considered the league's "One True Champion."

Now the Bears have to wait and see on what seems like a long shot for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

After Baylor grabbed a share of its second conference title in a row with a 38-27 victory over No. 9 Kansas State on Saturday night, Briles acknowledged having a somewhat brisk conversation with Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby on the podium in the middle of the field during the trophy presentation

David Beaty takes over at Kansas

When David Beaty was hired to coach wide receivers at Texas A&M, it was not a popular choice.

Beaty almost chuckles when he remembers that these days, sitting in the spacious corner office that overlooks Memorial Stadium. He had been part of a coaching staff that had been fired by Kansas, so Aggies fans were wondering what their coach, Kevin Sumlin, had seen in him.

Turns out that Sumlin saw a tireless worker, ace recruiter and brilliant offensive mind that would help to elevate Texas A&M among the nation's elite.

    Tyreek Hill dismissed after arrest

Oklahoma State has dismissed junior wide receiver Tyreek Hill from the team after he was arrested and accused of punching and choking his pregnant girlfriend.

The school issued a statement Friday to announce that Hill is no longer on the team.

"Oklahoma State University does not tolerate domestic abuse or violence," the statement said. "Based on the evidence and the serious allegations that have been made, Head Football Coach Mike Gundy has announced that Tyreek Hill has been dismissed from the OSU football team. He also has been dismissed from the track team. The allegations are under investigation by Stillwater Police and by the OSU Office of Student Conduct. Those processes will proceed independently."
