No. 3 Oklahoma snags Big 12 title in Bedlam game vs. No. 11 Oklahoma St.

Oklahoma took the Big 12 title and likely a spot in the College Football Playoff -- and did at the expense of rival Oklahoma State in a Bedlam blowout.

Baker Mayfield threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score and the No. 3 Sooners beat the No. 11 Cowboys 58-23 on Saturday night.

TCU erases 31-point deficit to beat Oregon in 3OT in Valero Alamo Bowl

Thrust into the starting role in place of the suspended star quarterback, TCU's Bram Kohlhausen made the absolute most of his final chance with the Horned Frogs -- in historic fashion.

Not just for his team, but for the family that could join him at the Valero Alamo Bowl and those who couldn't.

Starting in place of Trevone Boykin, who was suspended after a bar fight two days earlier, Kohlhausen led the No. 11 Horned Frogs back from 31 points down for a 47-41, triple-overtime victory over No. 15 Oregon on Saturday night in the Alamo Bowl.

West Virginia beats Arizona State 43-42 in Cactus Bowl

Skyler Howard heard the boos from the home fans. He heard the talk about his inconsistencies. He heard how he wasn't cut out to be a Big 12 quarterback.

On the biggest stage of West Virginia's season, Howard did all the talking with his arm.

Howard threw for a Motel 6 Cactus Bowl-record 532 yards and hit David Sillson a 15-yard pass for his fifth touchdown with 2:19 left, lifting West Virginia to a wild 43-42 win over Arizona State early Sunday.

4-star CB Eric Cuffee commits to the Texas Longhorns

For the second straight year, the Texas Longhorns are gaining momentum heading towards National Signing Day, as Waco cornerback Eric Cuffee pledged to the Horns on Thursday in a televised appearance on ESPNU.

"Coach Strong has something great going on at the University of Texas, and I want to be a part of something great," Cuffee said. "He's the best coach there is in college football and it's only an hour away from home, so it's great to be a part of what Charlie Strong is doing."

Like Strong, Cuffee believes that the Longhorns are close to turning the corner and getting back to the top.

"He talks a lot about how this 2016 class can go overboard with talent, so I believe in what he says," Cuffee said. "He says a lot of great things about the 2016 class, how we're going to set everything off and I believe that's true.

Cuffee isn't totally finished with the process, though. And no, he's not visiting Texas A&M this weekend -- he's busy trying to add more recruits to the 2016 class.

"I'm recruiting a lot of guys who are interested in Texas who aren't committed. A lot of guys like Deontay Anderson, Dontavious Jackson, Brandon Jones, the list goes on and on of the guys that I'm recruiting right now. Chris Daniels, Jordan Elliott, a lot of those guys."

Baylor faces accusations of ignoring sex assault victims

During the first rape, Tanya was shoved into the muddy ground before her pants were pulled down. After it was over, the Baylor football player allowed her to get up and walk away, but then he pushed her, face forward, into a metal fence and raped her again.

He disappeared after handing Tanya her shirt back. Dazed, Tanya made her way back into the party, found her friends, and told one of them, "I think I was just raped."

Once at the hospital, in Waco, Texas, Tanya recounted for Waco police and a nurse what had happened: A Baylor University football player named Tevin Elliott had raped her. The defensive end would end up arrested by Waco police, charged with sexually assaulting Tanya, kicked off the football team and expelled.

Quarterback Jonathan Banks will transfer from Kansas State

Kansas State’s upcoming quarterback competition got a little less crowded on Tuesday.

Jonathan Banks, a former junior-college transfer who joined K-State last summer, will transfer to another school, he announced on Twitter.

“After discussing with my family and God I have decided to leave Kansas State University,” Banks wrote, “and I will continue to pursue my dream as a student-athlete elsewhere.”

Banks never played for the Wildcats. He finished fourth in a four-way quarterback derby leading up to his lone season in Manhattan and decided to sit out the year with a redshirt.

TCU CB Julius Lewis likely out for season

Earlier today, during his National Signing Day press conference, Gary Patterson announced that freshman cornerback Julius Lewis suffered an injury during offseason workouts that will likely keep him out for the 2016 season.

Losing Lewis is a huge blow to a TCU secondary that is already dealing with several injuries that have carried over from 2015. Safety Kenny Iloka tore his ACL against Stephen F. Austin, and cornerback Ranthony Texada tore his ACL against SMU, keeping both out for the remainder of last season, and preventing either from participating in spring drills this year.

Five-star LB Caleb Kelly spurns Pac-12, Notre Dame to sign with Oklahoma

Blue-chip linebacker Caleb Kelly left his California roots behind Wednesday as he chose Oklahoma over Notre Dame.

The No. 25 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 is expected to make a huge impact for the Sooners.

Kelly's size (6-3, 215 pounds) and speed helped him win the Butkus Award, which is given to the nation’s top high school linebacker

Baylor to discipline WR Ishmael Zamora after dog abuse

Baylor coach Jim Grobe told the Waco Tribune-Herald that wide receiver Ishmael Zamora, captured on video whipping a dog in June, will be disciplined but will continue to practice with the Bears' football team.

The video, obtained by KXXV NewsChannel 25 in Waco, shows Zamora hitting the dog with a belt, kicking it and yelling at it. Baylor was aware of the incident, according to a police report.

Baylor suspends starting safety for first two games

Even as Baylor looks to put a tumultuous offseason in the rearview mirror, the football team simply can’t get away from the dark cloud hanging over the program.

Interim head coach Jim Grobe announced Monday that Chance Waz has been suspended for the Bears’ first two games of the upcoming season. The only reason given was unspecified disciplinary issues.

The suspension will cost the defensive back games against Northwestern State and SMU. Waz will be eligible to return for the Sept. 16 game against Rice.

After playing in 11 games as a true freshman in 2014, Waz started 11 of the 13 games in which he played last season. He was again projected as a starting safety entering summer camp.

Baylor receiver suspended three games for abusing his dog

Baylor wide receiver Ishmael Zamora will sit out the first three games of this upcoming season following the publication of a video that showed him abusing his dog earlier this summer.

The team announced the suspension in a press release this week. In addition to the three-game ban, the redshirt sophomore will also have to complete 40 hours of community service "in a manner that will teach him kindness and respect toward animals," as well as attend counseling and give the dog to an animal-friendly home. The dog was sent to live with Zamora's relatives in Houston following the incident.

A Snapchat video surfaced earlier this month of the 20-year-old Zamora whipping his dog at least eight times with a belt, as well as stomping on it, after the pup allegedly went the bathroom inside the house. The receiver was charged with a Class C misdemeanor.

“Our football program does not condone this behavior by anyone. We are deeply saddened by it and have worked together with the University to hold Ishmael accountable for his actions,” said Baylor acting head coach Jim Grobe in a statement. “Our goal is for this discipline to be educational and restorative, and I believe that we have taken corrective measures to help Ishmael learn from his actions and to better understand the behavior we demand of all students at the University.”

Seth Russell tosses 4 TDs as No. 23 Baylor cruises in opener

With a coach named Briles still calling the plays, and Seth Russell throwing touchdown passes, Baylor's offense certainly looked very familiar.

Russell threw four touchdown passes in less than a half, and the No. 23 Bears beat FCS team Northwestern State 55-7 on Friday night in their first game since the sudden dismissal of coach Art Briles just more than three months ago.

Hill, No. 13 TCU pull away from South Dakota St late, 59-41

Kenny Hill kept smiling Saturday night, even after interceptions on consecutive throws in his TCU debut.

The junior transfer -- almost two years removed from losing the starting job at Texas A&M -- was just trying to keep the team's spirits up despite an early deficit.

Coach Gary Patterson had a slightly different view before the 13th-ranked Horned Frogs rallied and pulled away late in a 59-41 victory over South Dakota State on Saturday night.

Seales, Sanders help No. 21 Oklahoma St. beat SE Louisiana

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy began resting many of his starters in the second quarter.

It was that kind of day for the Cowboys. Jhajuan Seales caught two touchdown passes, helping No. 21 Oklahoma State roll past Southeastern Louisiana 61-7 on Saturday.

Mayfield leads No. 14 Oklahoma past ULM 59-17

Oklahoma can finally talk about Ohio State.

Baker Mayfield passed for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a half of work, and the 14th-ranked Sooners beat Louisiana-Monroe 59-17 on Saturday night in a warmup for their showdown with the Buckeyes.

Buechele shines again, No. 11 Texas beats UTEP 41-7

In meetings, in practice and when he was just thinking to himself, Charlie Strong pleaded with his team not to be a one-game wonder after a big season-opening win.

That turned out to not be a problem at all.

Freshman quarterback Shane Buechele passed for 244 yards and four touchdowns and No. 11 Texas backed up its first national ranking since 2013 with a 41-7 victory over UTEP on Saturday night.

Russell, No. 23 Baylor struggle early in 40-13 win over SMU

Baylor has touted itself as the nation's top offense for the past three years, and with good reason.

The Bears have led the country in scoring and yards per game over that span, so it was strange for the home fans to see them sputter in the first half, without a touchdown while locked in a low-scoring tie with SMU.

No. 23 Baylor finally reached the end zone with its opening march of the second half, igniting a 20-point third quarter on the way a 40-13 rout of the Mustangs on Saturday.

Russell throws 3 TD passes, No. 21 Baylor beats Rice 38-10

Rice officials say the university's Marching Owl Band may have gone too far in its satire of the sexual assault scandal at Baylor.

The band, which is known by its acronym MOB, formed a Roman numeral IX on the field during its halftime performance Friday to represent Title IX, the federal law Baylor is accused of violating in its sexual assault scandal. It then shifted to a star formation in reference to Ken Starr, the Baylor president who was demoted and eventually resigned amid the scandal.
