Safety, Butler TD push Iowa State past Texas Tech 40-31

This used to be the time when Iowa State would start to fade -- if it hadn't already.

Coach Matt Campbell and the Cyclones finished their second straight October unbeaten, and they're peaking heading into the sport's most crucial month.

Texas Tech's Alex Bowman was forced into a safety with 4:39 left, Hakeem Butler added a 48-yard TD catch from Brock Purdy just over two minutes later and Iowa State rallied to beat the Red Raiders 40-31 on Saturday.

Kyler Murray lead No. 8 Oklahoma past Kansas State, 51-14

Oklahoma is starting to look like a complete team.

Kyler Murray passed for 352 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score to help No. 8 Oklahoma beat Kansas State 51-14 on Saturday. The Sooners (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) rolled up a season-high 702 total yards and only punted once, and that was in the fourth quarter after Murray was done for the day.

Cornelius leads Oklahoma State past No. 6 Texas, 38-35

    - Taylor Cornelius had received his share of local criticism after Oklahoma State lost two straight contests, with some people calling for him to be pulled from the starting lineup.

But Cornelius rebounded in a big way Saturday night, throwing three touchdown passes and running for two scores, the last with 5:44 remaining, to help Oklahoma State beat No. 6 Texas 38-35.

Grier 2-point conversion run sends West Virginia over Texas

The last time West Virginia quarterback Will Grierran for the corner of the end zone against Texas, a dive resulted in a gnarly broken finger that ended his season.

He stayed upright this time, untouched as he scrambled for a 2-point conversion that gave No. 12 West Virginia a 42-41 win at No. 15 Texas on Saturday that kept the Mountaineers in first in the Big 12 as they try for their first conference championship.

Murray recovers, rallies No. 7 OU past Texas Tech, 51-46

Kyler Murray kept slinging it and running it after two quick interceptions put No. 7 Oklahoma in a two-touchdown hole.

Texas Tech's Alan Bowman didn't get a chance to finish the duel in the second half because of a recurrence of the partially collapsed lung that sidelined the freshman quarterback five weeks ago.

Murray recovered from those early picks by throwing for 360 yards and three touchdowns and running for 100 yards and another score to rally the Sooners to a 51-46 victory over the Red Raiders on Saturday night

Grier throws for 3 TDs, No. 7 West Virginia beats TCU 47-10

Once No. 7 West Virginia's offense found a rhythm, the Mountaineers imposed their will on TCU.

West Virginia scored three touchdowns in a 3:25 span late in the second quarter to break open a tie game and propel the Mountaineers to a 47-10 victory over the Horned Frogs on Saturday.

No. 23 Iowa State beats Baylor 28-14 for 5th straight win

Brock Purdy threw for a touchdown and ran for another score, and No. 23 Iowa State topped Baylor 28-14 on Saturday after a skirmish in the third quarter resulted in unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for each player on both teams.

Cornelius leads Oklahoma St. past No. 7 West Virginia, 45-41

Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Corneliuswas nearly flawless against Oklahoma last week, only to misfire on a 2-point conversion pass to Tylan Wallace in a one-point loss.

On Saturday, the connection worked. Cornelius threw a touchdown pass to Wallace with 42 seconds remaining and Oklahoma State beat No. 7 West Virginia 45-41.

No. 13 Texas defense smothers No. 18 Iowa State 24-10

he Texas Longhorns are on a late-season stampede toward the Big 12 title game. And given how things are unfolding around them and a sudden resurgence on defense, they like where they stand.

Now if only quarterback Sam Ehlinger's throwing shoulder will hold up.

Ehlinger ran for a touchdown and passed for another before leaving with an injury after a hard hit late in the second quarter, and No. 13 Texas smothered Iowa State freshman quarterback Brock Purdy in a 24-10 victory Saturday night that pushed the Longhorns a big step closer to a berth in the league championship game.

No. 11 Texas beats Kansas 24-17, heads to Big 12 title game

Sam Ehlinger and No. 11 Texas made enough plays to put away Kansas.

Next up is a much bigger challenge.

Ehlinger threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score, and the Longhorns beat the Jayhawks 24-17 on Friday to clinch a spot in the Big 12 title game.

Slugfest: No. 6 Oklahoma outlasts No. 12 WVU 59-56

No. 6 Oklahoma has been scoffed at for handing points and yards to opponents like presents, and it wasn't any different against No. 12 West Virginia.

Yet a couple of defensive gems now have the Sooners playing for their fourth straight Big 12 championship.

Oklahoma scored two defensive touchdowns to support another brilliant performance by Kyler Murray and the Sooners beat No. 12 West Virginia 59-56 Friday night to earn a spot in next week's title game.

No. 24 Iowa State barely survives, beats FCS Drake 27-24

Iowa State insisted on playing 12 games, cycling through a pair of FCS opponents before settling on tiny Drake.

That decision nearly resulted in the most embarrassing loss in school history.

David Montgomery ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns and No. 24 Iowa State survived a near-upset by the non-scholarship Bulldogs on Saturday, winning 27-24.

CFP hopeful No. 5 Oklahoma beats No. 9 Texas for Big 12

Kyler Murray had another Heisman Trophy-worthy performance, Oklahoma's much-maligned defense made some big key plays and the fifth-ranked Sooners won yet another conference title.

Now the 12-time Big 12 champions wait to find out if all that is good enough to get back into the College Football Playoff.

"There's no doubt we have a playoff-worthy team, but I understand that there's other factors there too that we can't control," coach Lincoln Riley said. "We've done all we can."

Murray was 25-of-34 passing for 379 yards and three touchdowns as the Sooners beat No. 9 Texas 39-27 in the Big 12 championship game Saturday, avenging their only loss and making their case for their third playoff appearance in four years.

Brewer helps Baylor beat Vanderbilt 45-38 in Texas Bowl

Before Baylor faced Vanderbilt in the Texas Bowl on Thursday night, coach Matt Rhule asked his players to think about where they were a year ago after the team finished 1-11.

After taking a moment to reflect on that, the Bears returned their focus to 2018 and finished an impressive turnaround with a huge performance from quarterback Charlie Brewer in a 45-38 win. Brewer threw for 384 yards and two touchdowns, the second a tiebreaking 52-yarder in the fourth quarter, and ran for 109 yards and another score.

Ehlinger's 3 TDs lead Texas past Georgia 28-21 in Sugar Bowl

Bevo's pregame strategy was to run right at the Bulldogs.

Once the football started, Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger took the same approach with outstanding results.

Ehlinger ran for three touchdowns, the Texas defense largely held Georgia's offense in check, and the Longhorns earned their first 10-win season since 2009 by beating the Bulldogs 28-21 in the Sugar Bowl on Tuesday night.
