Bill Walton used to ask me how we knew each other. Every time I saw him, he’d ask how he knew me. I got a kick outta that. I’d always be like, “Brah… you are the fucking man…. But you’re asking how you know me so I’m obviously a big deal….”
"I'm not into being remembered. I learn from yesterday, dream about tomorrow, but I try to make today my masterpiece". Bill Walton
Sad day for Blazer fans and the basketball community. He clearly had a big heart and loved to share time with others.
When my son was young he introduced himself to Bill Walton and told him his nickname was “J Danger”. 2 years later my son met him again and he called him “J Danger”
Bill was an avid cycler and breathed a fair amount of car exhaust in the days when carbon emissions were really toxic...he is my age so we were exposed to things like suntan lotion and over exposure to harmful elements from the 50s on. I like to think of my generation as the cockroach generation....what can we eat breathe or injest and still survive from? I'll be 70 in a few weeks and Bill died at 71...a lot of stuff can accumulate over 7 decades of living....good thing about Bill and I think also myself is that we "lived" for that expanse of time and in his case...lived very very well. You could smoke in hospitals and on airplanes and in the movie theeaters when Bill and I were growing up...second hand smoke was everywhere
Yeah - I'm about the same age and it's crazy looking back on those days. Everyone smoked - everywhere. I smoked for 20+ years. I sometimes wonder why I'm still alive. On the other hand, my grandpa smoked pall mall straights most of his life and lived an active life until his mid 90's - go figure.
