It's true that part of the idea behind 9/11 was to draw the USA into the Middle East for a long, protracted and draining war. This happened with Iraq. However, al-Qaida is mostly in shambles at this point, and aren't at any particular advantage, even given our current dire economic situation. Besides, given the amount of effort we've put into catching him after 2002 (piddly-winks), I'd hazard to guess that Osama as a martyred figure would do them more good than draining our resources for catching bin Laden, which at this point amounts to little more than money for unmanned bomb drones that we've been flying over Pakistan. Osama has had a personal body guard since he became a public figure. That body guard has a loaded gun and is ordered to kill Osama if it becomes apparent that he will be captured alive. This is specifically to make him into a martyr. Also, none of this has to do with Islam.
