The point is If they continue playing like shit and win the division. You don't want them going into the playoffs playing like shit. Fantasyland will end once the playoffs start.

I'm 99% sure McD's shot at the end was on goal and Darling made a great save after NBC showed one replay. Eddie O was even saying as much but Doc was to busy wrapping things up to care.

The O needs to get going. The PP needs to get going. But our D and our structure are really sound. We'll start to score again, I really believe that. Things are getting tight now as we get close to the end of the season. No easy games now, even Buffalo has played well recently.

We have a few days off here before we play at Carolina and the Ducks at MSG. Rest up and get ready for the weekend. Get a win at Carolina and then play a tough Ducks team and go from there. Carolina is a game you want to win because you don't want to let the Isles or Pens have any shot at life. Get 1/2 of our remaining possible points and we are good in the Met. And considering how good we have been we shouldn't have an issue doing that.

Interesting nugget about our schedule. We are off today and tomorrow. From now until our April 11th final game at the Caps, this is the last time we will have two straight days off. Plus we have 3 back to backs left. 6 at home 7 on the road.

    Not easy.

They weren't going to stay on the same winning pace regardless. They were collecting points in almost every contest.

Locked up Al unless we fall apart. And if we do lose the Met now we should be very concerned because it means we would have sucked down the stretch.

We get 50% of our remaining points the Pens/Isles need like 80% or more of their remaining. That isn't a jinx, that is reality my friend.

there is a downside to having games in hand..they still have to be played...so 5 point lead with 3 games in hand...at what point do you worry about the amount of back to back games so late in the season?
need to get to 106 imo...as long as we don't go into a 3 game losing streak, then pressure starts to build, unnecessary pressure

Aren't you a math guy Al? If so I don't understand where you are coming from here. It isn't let's count those games in hand as automatic points...it's do the math and if we just get 50% of our available points remaining, the Isles and Pens need to get like 80% of their available points remaining to pass us.

So I am not even focused on 5 point lead with 3 games in hand = 11 point lead. I am focusing on the bottom line math of it Al and if we play WAY below the level we have played at all season, like 69% of available points earned, and get 50% of available points the Isles and Pens STILL need to play way above the level they have been at all season.

That's the point. So SURE it can happen, but if it does we fell apart in our last 13 games AND the Pens or Isles went crazy and got like 80% of their possible points remaining. Perfect storm...VERY unlikely.

I don't want them to go in as the 1 seed. Too much pressure. I'd rather they go 4-4 the next 8. Then get hot the last few and roll into the playoffs. I don't want the team peaking too soon.

"Man, the Mets are up 7 games with just 17 to go. This is great, no WAY they can blow this!"

    -Me in 2007.

Lot of hockey left, let's let everything play out before speaking in such certainties.

I have a feeling they won't be the # 1 seed, Montreal will be. But they will win the Met. Only way they won't is if they get 8 or 10 points out of 26 possible points, which is not happening.

And if it does we better all be concerned because they would finish like crap.

And let's give them 10 points only, puts us at 105 points.

That would mean the Isles need 16 out of 20 points (80%). The Pens would need 18 out of 24 points (75%).

So if we get 38% of our remaining points, the Isles would need 80% of their points and the Pens would need 75% of their points.

Right now we are at 69%. The Isles are at 62.5%. The Pens are at 62.9%.

Again PERFECT STORM for us not to win the Met.

Why is it hard to phantom the islanders going 8-2 or the Pens going 9-3? There are no absolutes when you have double digit games remaining, too many things can and have gone wrong to just say do the math...

Sure it is possible the Isles go 8-2 and we go 5-8 Al...ANYTHING is possible. The point is it would have to be the perfect storm. We'd have to way underperform what we have done for 69 games and the Isles and/or Pens would have to way overperform what they have done for 72/70 games.

But yes OF COURSE anything can happen.

You know what also CAN happen, we stop acting like little girls in here and understand the Met is pretty much locked up unless we REALLY play poorly AND the Isles and/or Pens play great to end the season. But I know we don't want to say that because we'll jinx it...LOL.
