The team whole was looking up. They were a nice lil team before the Melo trade. They were 27-25, improving and were playing with chemistry before they made that deal. Do you think he still might be there if let's say they took that same package they traded to Denver and instead moved it to Utah for Deron Williams?
He made 43% of his 3s last year between two coaches and with a fat PG who didn't really care about playing to win.
Olshey interviews Terry Stotts. http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/or...sf/2012/07/canzano_blog_dallas_assistant.html I respect Rick Carlisle and here's what he says: "It pains me to say this, but I think he's 100-percent the right coach for Portland."
I respect what he says also, but he is also trying to get his guy a job. Whatever happens, whether some of like the new coach or not, we can't say they didn't look at all their options
Having not seen Beal play, I can't speak for him being a bust or not. I can, however, speak of how Babbitt was horrible on defense, did not dribble very well, and did not provide anything outside of shooting 3's last year, and his supposed talent was a no show during the summer leagues. Beal also was playing in his FIRST ever summer league. Not after being in the league for 2 years and at 23 years of age. Beal is barely 19.
Yes, someone did. But since we're talking about the Summer league, I'm not sure why that keeps being brought up.
Lillard can collapse defenses with his driving ability. Luke can shoot open threes. He'll be useful in drive and kickouts. He's also shown this summer to be a nice rebounder. His handles are atrocious, however, and he needs to continue to work on his foot speed. Perhaps losing some of that baby fat may help.
I'm just clowning, but since you asked. Luke has proven to be an excellent three point shooter in the NBA. I'm not concerned one bit that he shot poorly in 4 summer league games three months before the season starts. I'm am happy that he had the confidence to keep gunning when he was shooting poorly. Granted that he needs to get better on the defensive end, so I'm hoping the next coach will straighten him out. If not he could be bouncing around rosters in no time.
I won't say there isn't a role for a guy like Babbitt who can stroke a three pointer from way downtown, but where do the minutes come from? Nic is going to gobble pretty much all of the small forward minutes (minus about 10 a game?) Hickson and LaMarcus probably dominate most of the minutes at the 4 and Babbitt is such a liability defensively that I'm not sure you can really hide him with many of the guys currently in the front-court (LMA moved to the 5 for instance) ... Something pretty dramatic is going to have to happen in camp for there to be much of a role for him, especially with guys like Claver and Freeland pressing him for time too. We'll see I guess.
Jason Quick @jwquick Blazers' 2nd round interviews for coach still undecided, as agents Warren LeGarie and Steve Kauffman say their clients haven't been notified
Tick, tick, tick... It would be nice if our new coach had time to at least meet the players and work with them a bit before the season starts so they know the offense. Unless it's Kaleb they're going to have to change the way they play quite abruptly.
