After supposedly interviewing around 87 assistant coaches, their grandmothers, dogs and 6 undocumented aliens hanging out on a corner in Old Town, it would be hard to convince anyone Kaleb was the most qualified for the job. If they hire him, it's 'cause PA is cheap.
Why would any of the 87 assistant coaches interviewed cost PA more money than Kaleb? It's not like they have other offers?
Of all the criticisms that could be leveled at PA's ownership of the Blazers, "cheap" is not one of them.

So ... Kaleb it is? Unless of course Mike Malone or one of the other thousand interviewees has emerged as front-runner
They've interviewed just about every available candidate in the span of two months. What is the holdup?
They're trying to wait it out until it will become socially acceptable to remove Kaleb's "interim" tag.
Ayup. But on the plus side, there are hardly any expectations on this team aside from development of the new additions and trying to see if the pieces can fit together. Canales seems like a pretty good bridge coach; a guy who can most likely keep the seat warm, whom the players seem to like, but can be easily replaced in a year or two when the Blazers are ready to hire the "real" coach. Or who knows, maybe Kaleb will completely surprise us and prove to a capable coach and can develop along with his young roster -- unlikely, but you never know.
