Collins is better than every other option we have at the 4. I'd look to trade Vonleh for an early second.

You guys realize we just overpaid, and traded up into the lottery to draft a player who didn't start for his college team, right?

He will eventually be a starter IMO and who is to say #15 or #20 would be a starter? For whatever reason, this is who I was told Olshey wanted from the start. He got him so I have to at least applaud that he did what he set out to do.

No. I think few rookies will. These guys all half to either get stronger or better. I hope he has a high ceiling .....his standing reach is 9'3"

I tend to think so too, but I guess we will see. It is nice seeing pro-Collins comments from quite a few fans here. Hope for the best?

Portland needs players as good as possible.....not a quantity of okay players. We already have plenty of those.

As someone who has been clamoring for 2-way players at the 3 and 4 since the beginning of last season, I approve this trade.

Yeah, he's young, but he has the skills and athleticism to make an impact at both ends. That 9.8 BLK% and 79.4 DRtg are off the charts. Shit, if he can post 5.0 and 100 at the next level, he will be our best defending big man (over the course of an entire season) since Bill Walton.

I don't care if he's white, black, green or purple. If he can play defense, I'm down with it. His offensive production will be fine. He has a nice touch both inside and out to the 3-point line. He has good footwork and a mean streak. He won't have the pressure of being our 1st, 2nd, 3rd or even our 4th option on offense. He can be an efficient scorer by getting his shots within the flow of the offense and not forcing anything.

Is Collins the dude that backed up the bearded guy at gonzaga?

The bearded guy hasn't been drafted yet. That seems to matter

what is the point of drafting anyone these days? IMO it is for 2-3 years down the road.

Davis/Aminu/Meyers are all garbage and should never play a single minute for the Blazers ever again.

I don't know anything about Collins, but based on the fact we just drafted him, combined with the fact that Vonleh was our only viable PF last season, I think those are our two PFs next season.

Maybe not on opening night, but likely by the end of the season -- unless they keep Vonleh as the token starter and use Collins as our 6th man and primary scorer off the bench.

I personally think he will start by the end of the season, He's just too good of a fit next to Nurkic.

No doubt about Neil loving this guy. They obviously saw enough of him if all they did was bring him in for a pshyc evaluation.

No. Just that they liked him. It's why I mentioned in the podcast that they would move up because they had convinced me Collins was the guy.

I am not sold on him either. I kind of wanted Bam at 15. Glad he went at 14....makes me feel better.
But Zach long term could be a smart pick if he can play both center and PF..as he adds weight
