The biggest problem I currently see for Leonard defensively is that Stotts is playing him out of position and matching him up with the other teams 4s often times on the perimeter instead of the 5s. This isn't a knock on Leonard, but he's the slowest footed on defense of the 4 rotation bigs, as far as sprinting up and down the court he's up their with the other 3 young guys but in terms of being able to move his feet with his man as well as rotate and recover Meyers is probably only faster than Kaman on the current roster. When we played GS we had Plumlee on Bogut and Meyers on Green, and when Utah went small Meyers was basically guarding SFs while Davis and Plumlee took Gobert/Favors, in my opinion it needs to be the other way around. Meyers has never really seemed to hate the contact of banging with the big guys, while it's pretty obvious he's hesitant to close out on perimeter bigs because of his lack of speed.
I agree. Leonard should be played at C. After our roster moves were made this summer I thought our starting front court should be Meyers at C and Davis at PF. I still think that makes the most sense, but it sure seems like Terry sees things differently. IMO, my original assessment makes more sense because you balance out the O vs D rebounds by pairing Meyers/Davis and Plumlee/Vonleh. Additionally I think that Plumlee would be more of an offensive threat in the 2nd unit, and could really be a nice P/R release valve to pair with CJ. And then Davis would be more effective as a "garbageman" in the starting unit. But then I never thought very highly of Stotts - this is his year to change my opinion, but so far he hasn't done much to "move the needle".
