So this means we would be in trouble because it would be considered tampering would it?

the writer quoted van gundy to the extent that they were in control as monroe's market is limited and they can always match. NO probably done with RFA after splitter and hibbert

Without reading it anywhere, I got to believe this came down to Nico and part(s) for Monroe.

Detroit was playing Josh Smith out of position at SF (where apparently he was a disaster). Detroit would love to slide Smith to his natural PF position to play down low with Drumonds and having Batum play the SF position.

Unfortunately this scenario doesn't work out for the Blazers as the Blazers wouldn't have a quality SF, lose a glue and chemistry guy and either Lopez or Monroe would come off the bench.

I could see the Blazers trying to sell Wright being a potential SF starter and then throw in a Robinson and Cj or some package. But Detroit probably balked any idea like that as that is just a package of bench players.

Will one team cave as the summer goes on? Can we trade for a SF to trade or maybe get a 3rd team involved?

Smith, Monore and Drummonds really doesn't work well for Detroit . . .

Detroit would like to do a Monroe sign and trade for Lillard.

I think it's just very sloppy wording. "Monroe’s camp was working on a deal with the Blazers shortly before the free agency moratorium began." That just says they were working on a deal, not that they were working with the Blazers on a deal.

Wow, intriguing. Of course we shouldn't discount the possibility that Marc Stein continues to be full of shit

    That may be the case.

But he is seeking the max.

There will always be talk of Aldridge bolting until there is news he signed the extension. It's the way of Blazerfandom

Definitely seems like they worded it poorly, but it's not sloppy. Either they are wrong or we are fucked on the Monroe front.

Monroe is a lock to get the max. Its wierd how every off-season fans are shocked that NBA contracts are handed out in the same manner as last year. This is how the market works.

I believe moratorium refers to period between July 1 and July 10, when guys can talk and agree to in principle, but not officially sign.

So when Aldridge didn't garner a max contract the last time around despite being a more productive player, was that how the market works? Of course their is no restraint on stupidity, but in all likelihood he isn't getting a max deal (15M per) regardless of your condescending assurances.

I have a co-worker who is a Laker fanboy and the thought of Monroe with Aldridge and Lillard gave him anxiety.

He brought up a great point - Monroe never had a lot of talent around him and certainly never had a PG like Damian. He thinks he could make a Pau Gasol-like leap with this core.

That won't stop it. Then there will be talk that he'll force a trade if he's not happy. So better trade him before he's not happy. ;)
