Looking at the box score, Reyshawn Terry continues to excel under the radar in 13 minutes per game. For the 3 games he is getting 1 rebound every 2.5 minutes. (Total rebounds are 7 offensive and 9 defensive.) He has had 4 fouls the entire series, whereas several players got 5 in this game alone.
After I posted that, they said he went pro in 2003 in Greece, so that must be why he was available to be drafted then.
I may have posted a lot in this thread (unfortunately, I picked the deadest thread of the 3 games so far) but the only thing I said about Babbitt is that he's a good passer. Didn't say anything bad, wasn't one of the ones calling him the Great Babbitt. More important-- Checking NBA.com transactions for today, I see that the Bulls named Scottie Pippen Ambassador. Ambassador to which country?
Ya, Batum was horrible in summer league. I think the difference is that we weren't expecting him to be good. Babbitt was chosen just outside the lottery for crying out loud.
I guess I just expected Babbitt to have a big adjustment period. Two years in the WAC is not ideal. But I don't agree with Kenny Vance who says he can't get his shot off. Will he have an adjustment? of course, but I don't think it is alarming by any means. He was 4-10 last night. The misses I remember, he was wide open. He will make those. I also disagree with those who say he needs to set his feet before he shoots. He already has a beautiful pull up mid range jumper. (One he hit late in the 4th last night) A shot btw Martel never mastered.
When Batum was drafted, the entire Blazer organization thought he was going to need more seasoning in Europe. When Babbitt was drafted, we traded a servicable wing player for him, and heard from some that the Blazer envisioned him in the rotation. So yes, I expected more at this point.
I expected more too, but I also halfway expected him to struggle like this (going from being strictly a pull up shooter at Nevada and trying to transition to a catch and shoot guy) The one thing I keep trying to remind myself is that it is just summer league and he's going to have the next three months after it's over to go home (or the Blazers PF preferably) watch tape and work on all of the the weaknesses that have been revealed in his game. The things he has going for him: 1) he's got NBA size and the mechanics on his shot are pretty good (if slow) and 2) he seems to be a worker and a competitor. That said, he's got a long ways to go; I don't expect him to be a capable contributor until at least the all-star break.
Yes and we have just acquired a "more serviceable" wing in matthews who can play the 2/3, Webs was awful as a 3. We have batum as our 3 so Webster was clearly expendable, what's so difficult to understand about this?
So you're saying Matthews and Babbitt is better than Matthews, Webster and 3 million dollars? Is that right? Is that really what you are saying? Because signing Matthews has absolutely nothing to do with Webster for Babbitt. For an owner that seemingly wants to win now, that makes no sense.
I have to agree. The only thing that I can think of is that Martell quietly asked to be traded because he wanted a starting role somewhere else and the Blazers consented.
Maybe - but who knows if Wes was willing to sign if Webster was still on the roster... I am sure the big money offer is important - but he might not have signed the contract if he thought he would be buried on the bench getting splinters as well. The fact is, it was a very good value for Webster's services - imho - what we have seen from Webster was that he was never worth the high pick he was taken with - he was basically a late-lottery/mid-1st round kind of value - and it was clear that he was about as good as he was going to get in Portland - so trading him, opening minutes for a free-agent and getting a prospect for him - was probably a good risk.
