I'll say it...mea culpa, Larry. Looks like you made it a "working weekend" and not the "vacation" it was described as.

That point concluded, what are Miller and Allen talking about "the entire time"? Imagining for just a sec, I'd say it was GM candidates, not FAs or trades, b/c neither PA or LM seems to be talking to agents, players or other GMs. Was this weekend the catalyst for the "next round of GM candidates"? And when do you think we might happen to have a player or GM in for a meeting/interview, much less get a contract signed?

Yet another example of bringing up Pritchard to deflect criticism away from management/ownership. I called it!

EDIT - the next 10 or so posts did the exact same thing. "KP"!

Uh, fellas, KP is history. Let's move forward and stop with the dumb "if KP was still GM" strawmen. Explain to me how things are great right now in the front office.

I was wondering the same thing. What the fuck would they be talking about all weekend? The "news" out of the weekend is that more CM candidates will be interviewed, and that the Blazers will start looking at"sign-and-trades" after the good players who can make a difference pick new teams.

Where was all this impatience when Pritchard was GM? Now you worshippers know how I felt for the last few years. Except your impatience is day-to-day, while mine was month-to-month. I'd think, another half-season gone by and not one rumor of his doing anything. Just his continuous lazy quotes about how fat and comfortable he is with an inexperienced, underproducing roster.

I wish Paul Allen would say, "Just to get under the skin of my critics, I'm not going to sign a GM for 2 more months. We'll still have a better summer than Pritchard ever did. We only have to sign one FA." And the only reason Pritchard did even that, 1 out of 3 summers, was just to spend to the limit before he couldn't, when any other owner would have laughed at his GM and said, "Of course not."

Can the mods just set up a macro so these guys can save us all some time?

Who exactly is the GM right now, btw?

Where was all this patience when Pritchard was GM?

Goes both ways the way I see it.

There is absolutely nothing to be said for inertia, except by the lazy who seek only comfort. Change keeps a team alive. New personalities energize everyone. The coach is forced to review plays and designs them for new players.

The Oregonian abhors tough lively personalities, but that's how you win in sports. Sports may be funded by the upper middle class, but players have always been from the lower class. This is a sweaty physical activity and it needs a fighting spirit to accomplish anything. The effete snobs critique it and hold their noses. I'd like to tell the Oregonian, what happened to art galleries and the opera? Why are you wasting your genteel teatime looking at sports?

    Bring back Bob!

Did they Skype as well, or is Larry still using a rotary phone? Are they admitting to being BFFs?

Well if we're healthy we'd have change and we'd have personalities back with the team and a rookie or two. I'm not opposed to change, I just don't really see the need for it and I'd like to see what the team can do when healthy, if that's in fact possible. Too much of anything is bad, whether it's change or inactivity.

the team didn't exactly stay the same last year so what inertia are you speaking of? Mills Miller Camby Cunningham Pendergraph Howard... thats over a third of the roster. Second, nothing but pulled out of your backside conjecture backs up this regularly aired complaint of yours that rosters have to change or a team fades... remind me of all the roster turnover the Lakers have had their last 3 finals appearances.
You pine for Bob and everyone else is wrong... we get it. No one said love is rational

It is kind of ironic that KP was dismissed after a season where he made a concerted effort to adjust to the team's changing circumstances. (and to fix what some of us thought was a flaw in his approach)

He did what some of us wanted him to do, and got fired. Guess that shows that the fans and PA are not on the same page. :dunno:

    Too little, too late.

I was responding to the post I was responding to. It praised inertia in the abstract, without mentioning specifics like players or a team.

It is common wisdom that when other teams around you improve, your team needs to keep up. If you haven't heard that pearl, then you need to keep up.

Some other posters here are also favorably inclined toward him. You hate him and everyone else is wrong...we get it. Pritchard worship is the best example of irrational romantic love.

lol that you think your oft repeated BS is common wisdom. That you chose not to respond to my Laker example pretty much speaks for itself. I'm more of a talent + chemistry + health guy then someone who hopes to write hallmark cards. It's my belief that the Blazers have the talent and chemistry they just need a little better luck with their health and they will at least contend. Fans and media who crave drama are the ones who pine for turning over the roster just for the sake of it.
you're pulling this out the same place you got that pearl of wisdom. I liked a lot of things done by TB and hardly bash him. Hell, recently I even defended the Brian Grant for Kemp move as a reasonable gamble given the circumstances for the umpteenth time... but I also recognized and criticized his missteps (Damon Stoudamire). I love the Blazers, but it's not a blind infatuated love like you have for your special fella. I've been evenhanded in my praise and criticism for KP... clearly you don't recall what I've written on TB and KP and are just flailing back in response. Nash was the only Blazer GM I ever bashed/felt hopeless about. When he'd make his moves I'd always be left hoping that the rational would become clearer over time or that there was some other mitigating circumstance I wasn't seeing. At least his reign was short...

we don't know what he was fired over but I really doubt it was over the roster moves. Most front office types want more say so while Paul has always seemed to want many voices involved including his own... more of a knights of the round table then a monarchy. There have been rumors of KP (and his guys) trying to grab more organizational power. That makes the most sense to me but :dunno:
