I've had Google Fiber, and now CenturyLink Gig. You have to be a rabid bit torrent fanatic to see the benefit consistently, but I do know that buffering and "rate shaping" while streaming content from any of the major services is basically non-existent, no matter how many in the house are watching or downloading large files. And if you ever have to upload a huge, say, video file to dropbox or Google Drive, well, 'nuff said.
Better not be for to long. Cable will be gone in about 3-5 years from now anyway. No one will be using it.
I'm really close to cancelling Comcast and switching to DirectTV, regardless of what new deal the Blazers sign. The 30 or so Blazer games I watch on CSN and a handful of Beaver football games on Pac 12 Network each year arent worth the extra $$ I have to pay for Comcast.
You really need to contact a regional sales rep and work a deal. I got 150MB internet + all comcast channels (including sho, hbo, etc) I think its called 'digital premier' , for 120.00 a month (for 2 year agreement). I own my own cable modem so thats money off too. Of course after 2 years, you call the rep and say you need the same deal or you gotta switch back to DTV. and then you take DTV's latest 2 year deal, rinse and repeat bro. Or you swap it back and forth in your wifes name and yours. (if you're married, etc).
Same for me. 75 mbps and cable tv for 79.99/month price locked for two years. Call and tell them you want to cancel a month before your contract ends, talk to a customer loyatly rep. Reject first offer. Threaten with deals competitor has, then they offer you a good deal. Happens every time.
