Well I was willing to bet you LA was leaving after Olshey's comments (noticed you never commented) Was willing to bet money to something like being a moderator . . . I've said you couldn't trust what NO says since his first interview as a GM, was all over him his first draft for saying he doesn't draft by position but BPA . . . don't know how much more of a track record I need. I have always said I don't care if he lies as long as he puts together a championship contending team. But I haven't seen him do anything special and am getting tired of his BS. Apparently so is Hughes. (kidding don't know why Hughes said that, but simple mistake isn"t something I would expect from a seasoned vet coach like Hughes)
Well, there are some problems with that. First of all, it was probably never 100.0% certain that LMA was leaving until he did. Even if NO believed he was 99.99% certain to leave, it would be just stupid to shut the door on any remaining chance by declaring publicly that LMA was gone. Second, he didn't tell you that LMA was staying. He said that LMA hadn't told him that he was leaving. Which is likely 100% true, given what we know about LMA's personality and communication skills. Third, it's his job to blow smoke up people's asses. Which Blazer GMs did you trust and why? barfo
Say what? I don't remember you betting me! And btw, I didn't get on some bet mid season when it was said and I'm a betting man.
He can lie to me every time he opens his mouth so long as I still believe he's doing things that put this team in a position to be more competitive down the line. All I care about are results, words coming out the mouth of a salesman mean fuck all to me.
I realize GMs are going to spin the truth for betterment of the team. But NO takes it to another level. The guy is a talker but doesn't have a lot of substance behind what he says, IMO. Apparently it doesn't bother fans on this board, which is fine. We all want the same end product and I suppose who cares what what image a GM has or how he does things. I don't know which GMs I can point to that I loved. But I have posted for a long time and never came out against another GM. Something about Olshey rubs me the wrong way. Just wondering if that something rubbed Hughes the wrong way. GM's aren't supose to blow smoke to their staff, wonder if Olshey conducted himself the same way to staff the way he does when he talks to media. If I had a boss like that what a perfect way to get fired. I also don't believe for a second that NO didn't know LA was leaving or that LA didn't communicate that to him. But whatever . . . fans on this board seem to love Olshey, not sure why . . .but hope I am wrong and he can put together a contending team.
Hughes didn't confirm anything. He merely stated the obvious. On top of looking completely incompetent- Neil looks like an asshole here.
You can resign because you think your boss is a lying sociopath, or you can prove it on your way out and become a martyr...
I think I voted in the poll to fire him. I take it back. I feel sorry for him. Never knew it was for real...I don't know my own strength.
You do a better job of representing my feelings than I do! Keep up the good work. I'm in total agreement.
I'm aight with a man named Trader Bob or Jerry West. Jerry West could probably fix this. Anywhere he has been, he's had success. And yes I know he's old. But Paul's franchise needs to be fixed. And he needs to remove himself from player personal operations. He maybe the problem.
Many of us who thought that he wouldn't be fired, thought he should be. I said so in my post in that thread. I said it was a bad poll, for lack of that 3rd option.
This, he should be held accountable as well. KP was held accountable for his assistants actions and behaviors in the end. Why shouldn't Neil be held accountable for this?
Not really related to the Hughes fired thing, but I'm impressed that you think this changed the dimension of FA talks (like Monroe) vis-à-vis LMA. It either would've gone like this: Greg: "Hey, LMA, it's Greg Monroe. Portland's on me hard to sign there to play C next to you. But you're a UFA. Are you signing back there, or am I playing with Meyers Leonard for the next 4 years?" LMA: "Um, I, uh...you know...not really sure yet...meeting with, you know, San Antonio..." Greg: "Dude, 4 yrs on the line here. You signing back with them or not?" LMA: "not sure...they're in the running..." Greg: (to agent) "Get MIL on the phone" OR, like this: Greg: "Hey, LMA, it's Greg Monroe. Portland's on me hard to sign there to play C next to you. But you're a UFA, and I just saw a video of a coach there saying you're not going back to Portland. Are you signing back there, or am I playing with Meyers Leonard for the next 4 years?" LMA: "Um, I, uh...you know...not really sure yet...meeting with, you know, San Antonio..." Greg: "Dude, 4 yrs on the line here. You signing back with them or not?" LMA: "not sure...they're in the running..." Greg: (to agent) "Get MIL on the phone"
Speaking of Vonleh, Here's another thing. If that info was corporate proprietary information. Two days before Hughes divulged that info, Supposedly one of the things Vonleh had learned is that the team was on the 'rebuild'. If what Kim said was grounds for termination, What is Vonleh's discipline? If anyone was looking for a smoking gun. They didn't have to watch that video. There were holes and leaks in several areas. In the end, the info was guarded and managed poorly and that is on the President.
