    On the one hand I hope they don't do something cheesy like "Portland Rip Citys" or "Rippers" or something trying to incorporate Rip City into the name.

    Though, the Portland Schonz would be cool.

    I haven’t heard a thing about the name, but if you look up G-League teams, a bunch just have the same name as the team they are affiliated with.

    Still asinine to me they will play 5 miles away. Dumb. Go to a suburb or different part of Oregon

    Would renaming it the St. Schonz area be a bridge too far?

    Why do you think its dumb? You've provided no argument except your opinion. Well hey I think its dumb to play in a different city. I'll actually provide reasons as have other posters;

    If they go to Eugene its much more difficult for players and coaches to work with both teams. Maybe Salem would be easier, but then really what's the advantage of being in Salem when bigger Portland is even closer and with more potential fans.

    When teams like the Ignite come to town there could actually be decent sized crowds. Makes much more sense to have it in Portland where more fans, players, coaches, media, etc can actually see it.

    The Stampede was in Idaho when the Blazers owned it. What advantage did that have over all the logistical problems of the team being hours away from Portland? When the Jazz bought the team; guess what city they moved it to?

    Yeah--looking around at colleges near Portland (Linfield, George Fox, Pacific), none of their gyms/arenas have seating capacity above 3,000. Outside of the metro area, Hooker Creek in Redmond would be an obvious option, but I'm guessing the Blazers didn't think Bend was big enough to support the team.

    It would be logical to name the team the Vulcans as a nod to our Seattle-based overlords.

    Why? The Western Burbs have the Hops. The Southern Burbs Have Drag Racing. The Eastern Burbs have Cornhole , fishing, and hunting. Only the Northern Burbs were left out. Perfect area.

    My argument is ignorance. Marketing, increasing fan base, expanding the brand. It’s going to be 5 miles from the Rose Garden. I would literally never go

    Cept that outside of OSU and U of O, there aren't college gyms big enough.

    You live in Texas, you wouldn't go even if it was Bend.

    Here's an interesting thought process. I bet most people who would go the games, are more likely to go now that the team is local, instead of having to drive 50-100 miles to watch a game.

    I wouldn't go to games if they were more than 35 minutes away (Chiles is about 35 minutes from me). Most fans aren't going to travel that far for what amounts to AAA baseball, so why put it in a place that's far away from the states (by far) biggest population center and on top of that, is in a better facility than what is available for use within probably 100 miles radius of Portland?

    Would I have been fine with the team in Corvallis or Eugene? Sure. I would be far less likely to go to the games if it was that far away, tbh.

    But in the grand scheme of things, I don't really care where the team is situated. Complaining about that just seems like bitching for the sake of bitching.

    You wouldn’t have to because the ACTUAL Team is there
