    Hello darkness, my old friend
I wouldn't mind acquiring Thomas, if Portland thinks they can re-sign him long-term. I think he makes a nice weak side defender off the bench...a younger version of Birdman.

It does, of course, depend on the cost.

Obviously, I'd much, much rather have Biedrins if he's actually available. And I think a Butler/Haywood addition would be really exciting. But those are likely much more pie-in-the-sky scenarios. Tyrus Thomas seems much more realistic.

I'm starting to warm to the idea of an Outlaw and Rudy for Tyrus deal.

    Let's see:

    Hinrich - $9.5 M plus Thomas - $4.7 M = $14.2 M

    Bayless - $2.1 M plus Outlas - $3.6 M = $5.7 M

Looks like you're a little bit short there, Slick.

Soooo much easier being a message board GM than a real one

I agree, Pritchard would do well on here.

Yeah, I don't see Outlaw or Rudy fitting in that well long term. I could see Thomas fitting in quite nicely here as a hustling backup big man.

I guess it's clear why Mix hardly ever posts a real trade idea, just whines and cries.

Tyrus Thomas's pre-draft measurements, and some totally random comparisons:

    Code:
    Player Ht w/o shoes weight
    LaMarcus Aldridge 6'10 234
    Jeff Pendergraph 6'8.75 240
    Juwan Howard 6'8.5 253
    Luke Walton 6'7.75 235
    Dontonio Wingfield 6'7.5 246
    Pops Mensah-Bonsu 6'7.5 232
    James Jones 6'7.25 218
    [B]Tyrus Thomas 6'7.25 217[/B]
    Rudy Gay 6'7 222
    Dante Cunningham 6'7 227
Can we really characterize him as a "big man"?

I'd like to see his updated numbers. Travis came into the league at 6'8" and grew to 6'9.5", for example. Tyrus was a freshman (or soph?) at the time of the draft.

I don't think anybody was characerizing him as a big man. He plays PF. Chuck Hayes plays center and he is only 6'5" tall. The main question being, are they an effective player? I could give a shit if they are a 3 foot tall midget if they are an effective player at the position they play.

    Fly with whom?

    Bayless?

He's 21. He doesn't get to dictate when and how often he plays.

I'd like to get Thomas if we can give up just Blake and Outlaw. I don't know that I'd move Rudy to get him, and certainly not Bayless.

Thomas would be a good backup 4 for now and the future, with Aldridge sliding over to play the 5 if Oden is out.

I'd prefer Biedriens because of his superior size and would be willing to throw Rudy the Warriors' way...

How much does he weigh? You really think Chuck Hayes and Tyrus Thomas are comparable? Hayes could twirl Thomas round his finger.

The Bulls are trying to give him away. Perhaps that answers your question.

If we wanted Tyrus Thomas we could have had Pops Mensah-Bonsu. They are practically the same player. Except Pops isn't a colossal asshole.

    1. If we get Thomas, we aren't getting him to be a center.

    2. Players on the team don't have to like each other to play well together.

    3. We need more assholes on this team. Assholes=Attitude. We have too many nice guys on this team, and the Juwan Howard incident that happened the other day illustrated that. Somebody on the team should have been pissed off well before that.

    4. If the Bulls were trying to give him away, then why isn't a deal done? The reason is because they aren't giving him away, and they are asking for more. Every article out there says the Bulls are asking for more from suitors.

    5. I wasn't comparing Chuck Hayes to Tyrus Thomas. I was stating that a players size does not matter as long as the position they play they are effective at.

    6. Many PF in this league have been tremendously successful at approximately 6'8" tall. They may not be KG versatile at that size, but they can still be good players. 2 of the best defensive PF in league history were 6'8" tall. Buck Williams and Dennis Rodman. Not 6'11".

    Career PER:

    Pops: 13.3
    Tyrus: 15.4

    Date of birth:

    Pops: Sept 7 1983
    Tyrus: August 17 1986

The two players are not "practically the same". Thomas is a much better player and he's almost three years younger.

    Tyrus was born in 1986.

Reading that makes me feel old.
