I think he would be cool to get. If Portlanders loved Frye they will go apeshit for Rod Benson. As an added bonus he can actually play.
I would have to imagine they might pull the trigger on this real quick. The other thing being, if they are allowed to bring in a player, it might provide more freedom on the trade front. So if we bring in another body on the front line, then perhaps it's not so hard on the team to move a point guard out due to body count.

What about Dwayne Jones? He's a 6'11" forward/center that is averaging 18.0 PPG, 13.3 RPG and 2.2 BPG. His FG% is 0.659 and he's shooting 0.789 from the line. He's strung together 7 straight double-doubles - including 27 PTS, 24 REB and 4 BLK last night. He's also averaging 5.3 ORB/G. Yeah, it's just the D-League, but those are solid numbers and he has good size for playing the 4 or 5. He hasn't really had a bad game all season and put up numbers nearly as good last season (16.9 PPG, 13.7 RPG, 0.608 FG%). BNM
I've seen him play at summer league the last couple years, and I was always impressed by his physicality.
Its easy to Poo Poo D league players, but the facts are some of them turn into pretty damn good players. Eddie House was a D Leaguer. Raefer Alston was a D leaguer. Miki Moore. Shannon Brown. Gems are out there. You just got to go looking for one.
He's always been very good defensively and on the glass. He was very raw offensively in college and a poor FT shooter. He's vastly improved his FT shooting and continues to rebound like a madman. Other than put backs and dunks, he wouldn't need to score a lot to help the Blazers. He could be exactly what we need - a tough physical presence in the paint and on the glass - when Joel is out of the game. In fact, his game is quite similar to Joel's (limited, but efficient offense, great rebounding and interior defense). BNM
It's not like we're looking for a long term solution. Just someone who can come in and help out until some of our injured players come back. Thanks to the way the injury exception works, it's a great opportunity to bring up someone from the D-League and see how they compete at the next level. It's extremely low risk, and who knows, you might find someone who is good enough to stick around a while. A lot of guys are in the D-League because they are very limited offensively and would have trouble scoring in the NBA. That's why I think a guy like Dwayne Jones is worth a look. Defense and rebounding tend to translate better to the next level than scoring. There are a lot of great scores in college who have trouble getting off their shot in the NBA, but guys who are great rebounders in college tend to be at least very good rebounders in the NBA. BNM

I'm sold. Nice size, good rebounder, awesome FG% means he doesn't take shots he can't make. He's 26, which is really just entering the prime years of his career.
Fuck it, why not? He's already a nine million a year cap hit on our books for the year, and it's arguable that he'd be any worse than Martell Webster. Of course I'm kidding, but just barely.
Yeah, it would beat the hell out of having to waive one of the injured guys and then go out hunting for somebody, especially if he ended up being a complete washout. In which case you lose a prospect you might be marginally interested in (like Patty Mills), you haven't really helped your cause, and now you are worse off than where you were at the start of the process.
