Bill Fitch, the greatest coach ever, made Petro into a 20 points per game starter. If he'd stayed in Portland he would have gone nowhere. Bill Fitch should be your national hero. He is in the pantheon with Bob Whitsitt.
Let's not go overboard. He was just a shooter/scorer SG, not a PG. Fitch was a screaming slavedriver at all the teams he coached, and drove Petro to 20ppg on a mediocre Nets team.
Almir and Lukee, you will find that I am the voice of reason, often calming people to not go overboard.
Drazen had it all...beautiful game...he clicked with that Nets team...Reggie Miller calls him the greatest shooter he ever played against
See this: First Petrovic'club was Sibenka, from the town Sibenik today in Croatia. On 1983-rd Sibenka then in Yogoslavian league with Petrovic played final play off for Yugoslavian champion aganist my club from my City - Sarajevo now in Bosnia and the club name is ' KK Bosna' . they won by some controversy but never mind i was his a huge fan. This video is from that final match. It was very close almost done deal for transfer Petrovic to my club KK Bosna they had negotations but finaly failed. It was very close that we signed him. Later he played for Cibona from Zagreb and then Spain and nba. He was best shoter and best player in that Yugoslavian league and national team. Later he played for Croatia when they become indenpendent country. Even today he is well respected in all ex Yugoslavian countries and probably still known as best player from Balkan
I met through my job Petrovic's brother Aco Petrovic who was the coach of my National team and now is the coach of Croatian national team. I was with him as well this summer in Euro Championship in Romania group stage. Of course we spoke a little bit about Drazen. Still sad about his destiny.
Petro was a huge fan favorite here in Portland. I was really sad when he was traded. When I was a teenager I sent him a basketball card in the mail asking for an autograph, and he autographed the card and sent it back to me
Divac was my favorite. I lived in Laker land when he was a rookie and watched his struggles, actually, his lack of struggle to be an NBA pioneer from a communist country. His European style gave him a head start on regular rookies. Later he put on muscle and got good coaching from former superstar Dave Cowens in Charlotte. He was the underrated key player in Sacramento, where they really won the championship against the Lakers but the league office instructed referees otherwise.
Good video. It shows the pomp and glory of winning. The referee decided the championship--of moustaches.
I am such a dick! Every time this guy posts I can’t help but read them in Borat’s voice. Sorry bro. #VeryNice
