No kidding. But even though OKC and Chicago did not make the finals, their PG's proved to be hard to defend. Having a PG that can attack the rim at will can't be bad. And we have no one else on the team that can do it. It wouldn't be every game. Nate likes to take advantage of match ups and against a lot of teams, that match up would work.

I have heard Mark Jackson raive about Andre Miller....... Do it.

The Blazers really need another person who can create their own shot now that Roy is defunct. Monta would give the Blazers that, but other problems would also stem from that. However, if by chance Oden does make it back onto the court in good condition, Monta might be a great choice to spread the floor, but also with Oden in there for offensive rebounds, Monta could jack it up a few too many times without it really hurting the Blazers.

I agree. Golden State Warrior fans on this forum constantly tell us that Ellis is not a PG.

I would love to have him though. He can be an elite scorer on the perimeter which is something we currently lack.

Monta Ellis could work out for Portland. He could play two-guard on offense, with Miller as point guard and then the two could switch on defense, with Ellis defending point guards and Miller defending opposing shooting guards.

Of course, if the idea is to replace Miller with Ellis, in the trade, that would be a titanic failure. Ellis and Matthews would be one of the worst distributing tandems in the history of ever.

Somewhat true, but not as bad as Matthews and Roy.

We could have three of the top 20 worst distributors in the league.

I listened to an interview with Ben Golliver on John Lund's show and he said he thought this was a smokescreen coming out of Ellis' camp to try to drum up interest in him. I guess I have a hard time getting enthused about guys like Ellis who seem like they need volumes of shots in order to get their points and who vanish on defense. Meh.

This team needs a creator!!! We don't have one now that Roy is done.

Monta would give that to us and be paired nicely with a GREAT frontcourt (Oden, Aldridge, and Wallace). It functions well.

Don't get your panties in a wad that Monta is a PG or he's not; HE'S A GUARD. HE CREATES SHOTS. HE SCORES. HE DISHES. HE EVEN BOARDS SOME.

The current Roy is a black hole, IMO, because he no longer has the consistent ability to break defenses down, which was always the trigger to set other people up. Now, he can only survive by getting the ball and shooting the moment he can find some space. But I wasn't even counting the current Roy as a factor, since he's a role-player in terms of production now.

So what you're saying is that Ellis is a "lead guard?"

Hes a SG. He can drive and dish or make an interior pass but hes a fuggin SG. If he were an inch or two taller he'd definitively be a SG.

OK, so based on the link above, I did the math to see if he's actually more of a black hole now, or if it just seems that way. In fact, he was a black hole the first half of the year, but after he came back from his hiatus, his %pass rate was higher than his career average.

    Code:
    		Touches	T/M	%pass	%shot	%foul	%TO
    2006-07 2444	1.21	55.4	31.3	8.6	4.7
    2007-08 4171	1.49	60.6	28.1	8.0	3.3
    2008-09 4263	1.47	55.2	30.9	10.3	3.6
    2009-10 3344	1.38	53.7	31.0	11.4	3.9
    2010, 23 games	951	1.17	48.8	36.7	10.4	4.0
    2011, 24 games	517	1.04	56.9	33.6	6.2	3.3
    2010-11 total	1468	1.12	51.7	35.6	8.9	3.8
    Career 15703	1.37	56.0	30.7	9.6	3.7

Not exactly sure what it means in terms of evaluating his role on the team, but I was sure surprised.

An interesting take from a Warriors blogger on Monta Ellis. He sounds like he'd fit in perfect with Jrue Holiday in Philly.

I cringe thinking about Miller guarding 2 guards at this point in his career.

Ellis is a good volume scorer, yes. But, he lacks everywhere else and gambles way too much on D. The guy I want from the W's is Curry.

Point guards tend to be quicker, which is Miller's weakness. I don't think he'd be a good individual defender against shooting guards, but significantly better than Ellis, IMO.

Don Nelson-created stars disappoint when traded elsewhere.

Monta has the physical tools to be an excellent defender against PG's. (Not SG's) We talk about how Nelson's players are a product of his Offensive system, could the player's D also be a product of that system? What happens to them once they move on to other teams?

On the negative side, Ellis would have to buy in to Nate's Deffensive system, which according to people who actually know baksetball, is pretty good. But I would question his attitude. But that would be a guess. All I know is the guy can flat out score.

Without getting into the "you're a troll" "no you're a troll" dispute, I would just add that today's SF Chronicle ran a story in which it was reported the Warriors would seek Matthews or Batum.

    FWIW.

I would assume they would seek both.

Monta for Batum and Miller would be...interesting.

I know this is a pipe dream, but Roy couldn't find a better PG to play with than Curry. Even CP3 or STeve Nash wouldn't be as good. Biedrins and Ellis for Roy, Miller, Batum and Babbit (and a pick swap) and checks on TM
