Now for all those upset with me, for being so down on this team...... I don't hold Vonlah's fantastic 1st game too high and I promise I won't hold Aminu's turnover parade so far too low. Preseason is a glorified summer league.

CJ is much more Roy than Lillard. Off balance two pointers, great at creating space, and a knack for getting to the rim using change of pace and off balance dribble moves. He will never have Roys size, athleticism, or vision but he's a better three point shooter. Good player for sure.

It's funny to read on several threads people's consternation with CJ going ISO. That was him his entire college career.

I still like CJ better than No-Mo or Crawford.

Good comparisons. I think last night was somewhat of a result of Lillard being out. I just can't see Dame allowing CJ to make ISO his entire game and I don't see CJ bucking Dame's leadership. The past two years have had to be extremely frustrating for CJ and hopefully, he's just getting some of that out of his system. He's smart enough to know he's going to get plenty of chances this year without having to be a selfish prick about it....

On Al-Farouq - his jump shot looks better than I remember but he kind of has tunnel vision and likes to operate outside of his skill set. Ideally, he should probably play to his strengths - defense, hitting the open shot, making the smart pass and the occasional drive. However it's very probable that Stotts is giving him the freedom to make plays in order to try and tap into his potential. A bunch of mistakes this season is fine in the grand scheme of things. Not like we're winning much anyways.

But man, if Batums turnovers were aggravating, Farouqs are going to be hair pulling.

CJ has the ability to take over the ball and put the play on his back. That's a good skill to have. IMO, he's also much more willing and able to play team ball than the-two-who-shall-not-be-named. And his defense is legions better than the last bench chucker we had. When CJ is on the floor with Dame, he'll be just fine. When CJ is playing against the other teams' reserves, he has the ability and probably the green light to score from anywhere, anytime. Mini-Brandon is a good comparison.

You may be right. As long as he prepares his team for the trapping defenses that will be coming.

So when does GrandpaBlaze post his game prediction results? I haven't had breakfast yet and I'm ready for my hearty serving of crow......I had us winning 122-103. Can I get a side of eggs and hash browns with that???

I watched about 3/4 of the game last night. What I saw were several talented player wearing the Blazer uniform, but I saw none playing basketball. Individuals taking turns playing with a basketball but no sign of a basketball team. Very much like a D league game. Very disappointing. I saw someone's comment earlier in this thread about preseason being just like a summer league game.
Yep, it was, summer league, D league, what have you. The difference though is, we are suppose to have a professional NBA coach running this team, attempting to fit 5 men into a potentially successful basketball system. No evidence of that happening, instead we are treated to individuals probing or just shooting, taking turns, nice and orderly. Eight games of this, and 82 more won't produce well executing team anymore than the same drill last year.
Portland will just do it with different names on the uniforms again.

You let the offseason moves get you too low.

See, that's the thing...preseason is the first chance to see any semblance of a Blazer roster play basketball and after a long off season...a little glorification goes a long ways...it's never too early to bring some swagger to the team.

Last night was the clumbsy game of the 3 so far..no Dame, no Harkless or Henderson ..I really enjoyed the team play in game 1 and 2...only saw half a game last night and it was ugly..out of sync but we lost by 4 pts to a veteran NBA team with a veteran coach and you can't ignore that ...pretty far from D league play..these guys do play team defense..

Defensive rotations are the best I've seen in ages..quick rotations and help is always there. Love seeing the defensive improvement. Good to keep in mind these guys haven't played a lot of basketball together and just beat the world champs..and really beat them.

Spot on, partner. I would like to see our boys create more turnovers and score more on the fastbreak opportunities. That is a work in progress.

With that said, our team may not make the playoffs and I can live with that if they continue building upon a good defensive foundation they are setting. That'll help in the next 2 to 3 years when they go on their own playoff run to the top!

Oh come on Cj is the same player as Mo was. They literally have no difference other than Cj has better handles

Then wouldn't that make CJ better? Handles are kind of important when you are a SG playing the point. CJ is also a much better defender.

OK. A quick little bugger he was.

And generous with the steak dinners, I've heard.
