We can correct that mistake by drafting his son in a couple years after he gets some seasoning at Gonzaga.
Yep. He'll join other former Blazer greats such as Richie Frahm, Dan Dickau, and Adam Morrison (training camp, but he did play in preseason games). Did Casey Calvary, Matt Santangelo, and Blake Stepp also get into Blazer training camp, or at least some Summer League table scraps? How about Matt Bouldin? How about Josh Heytvelt? Why do the Blazers always miss out on getting these Zag greats in their primes?
None of those guys were 5 star recruits, legit 7 footer or had a dad that was one of the greatest Centers ever. Carry on though.
None of that proves anything, and Kyle Wiltjer. I hope Sabas' kid become a great player, but knowing your history of pumping up Gonzaga players, it's hard to take your opinion on any of them seriously.
I think our best bet is trading into the mid to late first round. Can't say I am totally confident in our scouts, but there is always a guy who slips. I wonder about Zach Lavine and his 46" vertical leap? The guy barely played at UCLA his one year. Getting lucky on a two year project would be nice. But I wouldn't give up too much to do it unless the scouts were really sold.
I wouldn't be surprised if olshey packages a couple of our younger guys for a pick that fills a specific need while also offering some future potential (backup center for example).
I wonder if he has given up on Leonard yet. Its his pick and he was with the Clippers and saw what can happen when an ultra athletic big finally had it click as it did with DeAndre Jordan. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
An asset is an asset if you find someone willing to take a gamble on him. Neil Olshey shouldn't be gun shy when trading players he picked in the draft. More than likely it was a team decision and he may pull the trigger a lot quicker than some think.
I don't know why so many people seem to think a GM won't trade a player he drafted, out of pride or whatever. It's baseless. These players are chits on a spreadsheet.
Leonard might have more value to another team than he does to Portland. He needs to play and develop but he can't do that on a playoff team. Hate on Leonard all you want but athletic centers aren't a dime a dozen. I bet his trade value is higher than blazer fans realize. In a package including Leonard I think we can get back into the middle of the first. Barton could be a trade chip. He's flashed some ability but I still don't think he quite fits stotts' system.
If Will had a half way decent jumper he'd be an effective NBA player, but until that day arrives he's going to have a hard time fitting into any system. He lacks consistency on his form on his J. Focusing on that could go a long ways towards getting him PT agreed on your thoughts on Leonard STOMP
